Don 2 has opened to a good response on Friday with all India collections of around Rs 14.5 crores (including Telugu, Tamil versions).
Released on 3100 screens in India out of which 450 screens were in 3D, the Shahrukh Khan – Priyanka Chopra starrer has done exceedingly well at multiplexes in big cities. In Mysore, after a 35% opening on Friday, business picked up to 80% for the evening and night shows.
Farhan Akhtar films have never held mass-appeal. All of his films including Don 2, have failed to attract people in big numbers. In Don 2’s case, the lack of a hit music track being the biggest deterrent.
14.5 crores is a good numbers, considering the fact that Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara opened to about half the collections and yet managed to amass Rs 90 crores by the end of it’s run at the box-office. The word-of-mouth is good in metros, and we expect the film to trend similar to ZNMD.
The Dabangg 3-day weekend record is likely to stay intact as Don 2 needs 35 crores in the next two days to equal the Salman Khan film that released during EID in 2010.

Indicine….I am totaly pleased with that number…it is greatly unfair to compare Bodyguard firstday collection with Don 2….cause its realease date friday is a working day….and also, cold weather affected the collection…lets see forword….
I think its unfair to say..that because of a big track..the film did’nt get HUGE audience..PErsonally speaking ..I dont go to watch films just because of a good song ..
A movie should be valued by its script ..performances and direction ..and not the songs..
And DON2 is an ACtion flick..appealing to Urban Areas mainly..So it doesnt get much audience from B and C centres..meaning lower collections.
But this is a good thing..that its being liked at metros very well..’coz this very good positive WOM would ensure a very good trending like ZNMD..in this festive period…
I expect a good pickup on Saturday..and a bigger Jump on SUnday..It should cross 50 cr.

DON2 1st day boxoffice collections: 13.5 crores (hindi version) + 60-70 lakhs (regional version)
Dabaang record will stay as it is for the 3 day weekend. The collections highly depends on Mutliplex crowd because single screens may freeze out by monday. Weekend may end at 40 crores. Lifetime business may not cross 100 mark.
I’m reminding you again that DON 2 can’t beat body gurad Dabbang and ready too.

DON2 Advantages:
1. SRK with the performance of lifetime in negative role.
2. Great camera work with high octane action scenes.
3. No big movies for 2 weeks (till Players on 06.01.2012)
DON2 Disadvantages:
1. No good music. A “Munni” or “Chikni Chameli” would have helped DON2 to collect huge in sigle screens.
2. Flat screen play in 1st half. Not happening much in the 1st half except for SRK’s introduction scene.
3. Comparisons with MI-4 which is running huge in Indian circuit.
4. 25th Dec n 1st Jan both are Sundays.
Shuridh, agreed. These are very good numbers and unless it drops on Monday, the film is set for a good 2 week run.
Aashkaran, if a film has to do well at smaller centers it has to have some popular tracks. Songs like Teri Meri, Character Dheela, Dhinka Chika made a HUGE difference! Not taking anything away from Salman Khan’s fan-following at smaller centers, but good music certainly makes a big difference :)
I think its a good collection nd it can still cross 50 crore mark in weekend bcz saturday nd sunday will be huge as WOM is good. It was expected that single screen business will not be as good as in multiplexes.

Haroon, 50 crores looks unlikely now. It needs an average of 18 crores over the next two days, difficult!
Besides that,.. It will be better if Don 2 runs similar like ZNMD and 3 idiots without any crase like Bodyguard and Ra.one….

Ra.One carried some bad reports..but DON2 ..is welcomed..by majority of people..
For a non holiday ..14.5Cr is a good figure..The holidays start now..and till 1st Jan its all holidays..

Ha thik hai lekin Bodyguard 21.5 cr kaha aur 14.7 cr (Ra.One) & 14.5 cr (Don 2) kaha.
Kam se kam thoda nazdiki muqabla to hona chahiye.
Don2 is one of the best product of bollywood.It is made for intelligent ppl and that excludes half of india.Don2 is not for kulli and tapori(murder’s fan).This is a classy film for educated only.
The first day collection is good due to the fact that it is not a typical masala film that the masses at small centres generally like, it is an stylish thriller mainly for classy audience and i am very pleased as they are appreciating the film,hopeful that it will sustain well in the coming days.

Yes it looks difficult but possible. I think saturday will be around 16 crore nd sunday 20 crore looks possible bcz of holidays as Aaskaran mentioned. Lets hope for the best.

I am a Salman fan but i accept Shahrukh is better in acting than Salman & Aamir is better than Shahrukh.
But Salman is a style king & masses loves him.
In overseas Shahrukh is king no doubt but at Indian Box office Salman ka hi raaj chalta hai.
Aur ye agar tino ke fans maan lenge to i hope ladhai khatam ho jayegi.
@Arindam, we expect the weekend to be around 44 – 45 crores. Then it would depend how big the drop is on Monday. If it sustains, then collections should be about 35% more than ZNMD – so around 125 crores.

Yes, Agneepath can break the record. Thursday is a holiday (republic day) and then the usual 3-day weekend.
Indicine I think it also cannot beat even Ready beacause it is mixed word of mouth and also its music is not hit like Ready.Though collection get higher on Sunday but its too difficult to get 125 crores as you mentioned coz Ra.one also got huge opening but it fell too.

Box Office India has corrected the Hindi version net gross to 13.85 crores on the opening day.
They have also said 60-70 lakhs for the dubbed versions.
This would take it to 14.5 crores on the opening day.
Therefore hasnt Don 2 broken the Dabangg opening record as I have read it opened with 14.4 crores
Also isnt the record possible, surely it just has to sustain on Saturday and then have a big jump of Christmas holiday
