Dilwale takes record breaking opening in UAE GCC

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale has taken a record breaking start in UAE GCC,  recording the highest opening of all time. The film has collected around 3,300,000 dirhams (a little less than $900,000 as per estimates) on Thursday. The collections are higher than Hollywood film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens which has collected around $500,000 – $550,000.

So how big is the opening compared to other Bollywood films? Check out these numbers:

  • For Phantom , the best performing overseas circuit was UAE-GCC, where it collected $850,000 in its lifetime. Dilwale has collected more in a single day.
  • PRDP collected $640,000 in UAE GCC on opening day.
  • Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan collected $300,000 on Day 1 in UAE GCC. Business affected by Ramzan.
  • Varun Dhawan’s last film ABCD 2 collected $130,000 on Day 1
  • Tanu Weds Manu Returns was phenomenal in the Gulf, Day 1 collections $150,000
  • Varun’s Badlapur collected $135,000
  • Rohit Shetty’s last film Singham Returns collected $205,000 on Day 1, which was also the highest opening for Ajay Devgn in Gulf
  • Salman Khan’s Kick collected $293,000 on Day 1

  • Yay! 2 back-to-back movies in a span of 7 hours. Quite busy day :D
And finally, here is my “experience” of watching Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani.
Before I proceed with this review, I would like to make it clear that I always try to be unbiased in my “Experience” specific comments and PRDP review was a best example for the same or else all know, that I am a known Salman hater. So here too, I will try to be unbiased and if I say something against or favoring Dileale and Bajirao , it should be taken sportingly . Also, this is going to be a bit long , hence those, who are not habitual of long and boring comments, may skip it from here on.

    My Dilwale “Experience” :

Mine was FDFS starting at 09:00 am and there was around 75-80% of occupancy in that show which is pretty good considering it was an early morning show and Friday was a working day.

Plot : Dilwale is a story of Love, which revolves around Raj (SRK)- Meera (Kajol) and Veer (Varun) – Ishita (Kriti). There are many twist and turns in the story and there will be lots of hurdles before these two couples finally achieve their love interests. For further details, please head towards nearest theatre .

Dilwale is a typical Bollywood movie which provides a complete package of Romance, Drama, Action, Comedy everything under one frame. It’s a regular story and there is nothing new in it to call it a “trendsetter”. It has many hilarious scenes which will make you laugh out loud. At eh same time, it has few gigantic actions packed scenes which will give you goosebumps .Few scenes are over dramatic and reminds you about the movies of 90s. Specially, the climax scene, when goons beat Varun red and blue and then Kajol shouts her throat out “Kaaaaaliiiiiii……”. Though that was a climax scene, but it brought an smile on my face seeing a 90s types scene in 2015.

Performance : SRK is superb as Raj. He has a bit of romantic side in flash back, but most of the time he looked intense and he has nailed it completely. Flashback part totally belongs to SRK-Kajol and trust me, they have not acted, but they have lived their roles. There is a reason, why people call this pair as the most charismatic pair of all time. The way they exchange glances, stare at each other, pass the smiles, it not only shows the special bonding between these two, but it also shows how their personal understanding has become bigger and better with every passing movie. For me, the best frame of SRK was that scene, where SRK’s minions come and say , “We have found them (those who attacked Varun)”. Just see , the look which SRK gives and the way he walks, once he gets this news. Theatre was echoed with whistles and applauds. Kajol too, did a fair job with both positive and negative side of her character. Kriti didn’t have much too do, but whatever was there in her part, she tried to deliver her best. Coming to Varun, no doubt he is the rising superstar and soon, he will achieve the meg stardom, but honestly speaking ,he has over acted in few scenes. The biggest example is, check the scene when Mukesh Tiwari tells a fake sotry about SRK’s past to Varun and when Varun comes and calls SRK as “Ramlal”. That scene looked too artificial because of Varun’s over acting.
After SRK, if there are show stealers, then they are side artists. Varn, Boman, Johny, Sanjay Mishra , all did a great job. But if I have to chose one among these all, I will go with Sanjay Mishra. He was damn hilarious and all his scenes made audiences burst into laughter.

Music : Dilwale Album is arguably the best album of 2015. Preetam has done justice not only with songs, but also with background score. Every time, when the tuning of “Janam Janam” echoes, it takes you in an entirely different world. The rolling credit song “Tukur Tukur” was perfect at its place and its ends the movie with an energetic note.

Rating : NA (conclude it from my experience).

Conclusion : Dilwale is a typical Rohit Shetty movie. Yes, that’s right. So those, who were claiming it to have many more things into kitty are wrong. It promises you a throughout entertainment in Rohit Shetty Style. So if you love light hearted comedy , then go for Dilwale. It won’t make you bore even for a second. That’s my promise. But if you look for logic and some sincere plots in a movie (or if you are a Raju Hirani/ Asutosh Gowarikar fan), then Dilwale is not for you. Please stay away from it. Dilwale is a perfect one time watch, but it is not something which you will remember for years. Just enjoy it for 2.5 hours and once you are out from theatre, then forget it.
If you ask me to define it in one sentence , “A perfect one time watch but won’t be remembered once it out from theatres like CDI,PK, BB did”.

  • Varun Dhawan is soon turning into a superstar. His entry got loud cheers, just slightly less than what SRK and Kajol got. There is something about him which connects with the masses. He is carrying Govinda’s legacy forward, and how!

  • My Bajirao “Experience” :

Came out from theatre at 11:40 am. Reached the ticket counter at 11:45 am to get the tickets for Bajirao 12:00 pm show (as I didn’t book it in advance). Was worried if I will get one, but to my surprise, I got second last row from back (just 15 minutes from the beginning of movie). This shows the occupancy level of BM. 12:00 pm show of Bajirao was having 35-40% occupancy.

Plot : Bajirao Mastani is a story of Maratha warrior “Peshwa Bajirao” who fallen in love with a princess (of Bundelkhand) called “Msatani. How their own society goes against their love story, Bhansali tried to portray the same on big screen.

Bhansali is no doubt , one of the biggest directors when it comes to make grand movies. And Bajirao is another installment of the same. When movie started, I was in awe for first twenty minutes and I thought I am going to watch one of the best movie of recent times. The way, Ranveer breaks the target showing his Shastra Gyan and the way he speaks about his strategies to conquer Delhi (showing his Shaastra Gyan gives goosebumps). In fact , when Deepika barges into Ranveer’s mansion for help and when Ranveer offers a support to her and fights on the behalf of Bundelkhand, each frame looked a masterpiece . But sooner, all my excitement went into vein because of the slow pace of movie. “Mohe Rang do Laal” , what was the need of this boring song at that place? Other songs, too, were misplaced making the movie slow. Fact is, Bhasnali and Team had promoted it as a “Love story of a warrior”, but trust me, the love story was proven to be the weakest part of this movie. The time, this love story enters into the movie, it becomes quite slow and boring. Thanks to last 20 minutes, which saved it from being a completely boring movie like PRDP. First and last 20 minutes of Bajirao are masterpiece and the heart of the movie. Whereas you won’t find much in between.

Performance : They have overrated Deepika. For me, real show stealer was Priyanka. The emotional scenes, innocent scenes , all she has done superbly amazing. In fact, her steps are far better than Deepika in Pinga song. Another shocking surprise for me was Ranveer singh. Sorry Ranveer fans (if there are any), I kept on calling him as monkey (as he left such impression on my mind with his past movies), but he has done a superb job in Bajirao. Just see the scenes , when he is surrounded by enemies (in Bundelkhand war). His body language looked like a real warrior. Also, at the end, when he starts getting nightmares inside the sea, there, his performance is splendid.

Music : Music of BM is strictly average . Only one song is something you can call “good” and that is title track itself.

Rating : NA (Conclude from my experience) .

Conclusion : If you are a fan of Ranveer singh/Deepika Padukone/Priyanka Chopra, please go for it. If you love watching historical recreations, hurry up and book your tickets. But if you are expecting a masterpiece (as claimed by the makers) , then stay away from it. Forget Jodha Akbar and Bahubali, it is not even close to Ram-Leela both in intensity, plot and story . I don’t know how deepika made such claim, that you will be in awe with this movie. Bajirao is one of the most anticipated movie of the year (in terms of content) but unfortunately it doesn’t promise the same i.e. content. A disappointment from Bhansali.

  • For me, both Dilwale and Bajirao have missed the golden opportunity.

Dilwale had a chance to crush BM like what OSO did with Sawariyaa. But unfortunately, Dilwale doesn’t have repeat values like OSO , neither BM is as weak as Sawariyaa.
On the other hand, Bajirao had a chance to emerge as a big hit against Dilwale , provided by a rich content. But that also, seems to be impossible now as BM is set to wrap up within 100 cr.

In this whole story, Bhansali and Eros have been proven as the biggest fools. Man, you are taking on a Rohit Shetty entertainer , comprising a Team of stars, who hardly fail on Box-Office. You should have had something very strong to provide a neck-to-neck competition. But what was the result? You came with a movie which has mesmerizing visuals but a weak plot.
Now, I got a feeling that Bajirao would have got even a solo release, it wouldn’t have recovered its cost. I am not sure what make them to be super confident. At least, BM synopsis never gives that confidence.
For me, Dilwale is MUCH BETTER than Bajirao Mastani. Not because I am a fan of SRK or Dilwale is a masterpiece, but because Dilwale does what it claims ( i.e. entertains me and other audiences). On the other hand, there is a slow pace movie, which claims to be a masterpiece but runs based on stunning visuals and expensive costumes, without any substance.

@All : Please bear me for two more articles as I feel, if I have invested a considerable amount of time drafting these reviews, they should at least get published on three pages.

@Indicine : Kindly allow my reviews on three consecutive articles . After that, I won’t spam :)

  • Dilwale

SRK-Kajol – The Romance that will cast a Magical Spell on you.
SRK – The charm and intensity that will melt and touch your heart.
The Action that will boost your adrenaline to another level.
The comedy that will make you fall off your seat.
The twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The story that will make you want to hug your Loved ones.
The Music that will stay with you for a long time.
Dilwale is the Most complete Family Entertainer with all the perfect ingredients.
SRK-Kajol once again prove why they are called the most Iconic couple in the history of Indian cinema…
Dilwale is a MUST WATCH for all the families who want to have fun with their loved ones this festive season…….

  • Here’s my take on Dilwale:
First thing First, its NOT YOUR TYPICAL ROHIT SHETTY MOVIE. Sorry. There are no over the top comedy or action scenes. But that doesn’t mean it won’t make u laugh, there are some HILARIOUS scenes from each comic master like Sanjay Mishra (steals the show), Johny Lever (in full form), Varun Sharma (Fukrey wali acting ki hai or even better I guess)
And not to forget, the two assistants of Shahrukh gave the most Hilarious scene of the movie. Golmaal ki yaad aa gyi wo scene dekh k.
But the FOLLOWING highlights (according to me) of the movie will make u go for Dilwale again & again
    1. SRK’s introduction as a Gangster : Fucking AWESOME!! One of the best intro of SRK.
    2. Kajol’s BRILLIANT Multiple shade acting.
    3. SRK & Varuns Bromance: it made me cry yaar, this will be cherished by the family audiences for sure.
    4. BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY OF BOLLYWOOD, the car chase scenes, of course Gerua & the whole film actually has been shot BEAUTIFULLY.
    5. EDITING: is so superb that u can’t blink an eye after 10-15 mins, there are NO LONGISH SCENES. NO MELODRAMATIC SCENE.
    5. And the Biggest Highlight was: When SRKAJOL meet for the first time. OH MY GOD!!!!! I was shouting like a child who has seen Shaktiman in Real life.
So this is the MOST BEAUTIFUL Rohit Shetty Film. It’s SRKAJOL love story all the way…..

  • First Day First Show

    First Day Second Show

    back to back

    Madness All Over..

Kaali is Roaring at the Box Office…aur Haters social media pe Bhaunkte reh gaye..

  • Yes movies like these can only take gud opening and nothing more than that…. it probably one of the worst directed rohit film… the soul wasn’t der… johnny was awsm.. nd varun was gud to an extent but srk was totally in a shell.. #dissapointed

  • Dilwale is definitely an entertainer, in which mind-blowing performances of lead pair will blow your minds more than blowing lavishing cars. Shah Rukh Khan’s never end charm and intense screen presence is definitely a soul of the film. Kajol has given neck to neck competition to SRK, in terms of acting. She is at her best in that pre interval thrilling sequence. Varun Dhawan play his part well, though Kriti has done nothing except looking gorgeous in every single frame. Sanjay Mishra and Varun Sharma well played in comic department. Overall, Dilwale is an Aditya Chopra romance in Rohit Shetty ishtyle, where he blown some modified cars in Bulgaria that Chiffon’s Sari in Swiss Alps. Go and watch, it is something more than a Rohit Shetty ishtyle Cinema..

  • When Your Favourite Star Comes On Silver Screen Expectations Are Bound To Be At Higher Side.
So Did Dilwale Fulfilled Those Expectations. I Would Be Honest Here And Answer Is It Pass With Distinction.
Watching The Crowd Cheering SRK Kajol Entry Itself Made My Day Which Was Further Boosted By Laugh Riots In The Hall.
Its Rohit Shetty Film And If You Love Cars Its Another Reason To Watch Film (Tarakki Huyi Hai Bhai. Scorpio Se Ab Royal Royce And BMW Ko Udaaya Hai)
Only Minus Film Had Was First 20 Minutes But After That You Get A Good Piece Of Drama And And And Then Tighten Your Seat Belts (Actually Open Your Seat Belts) As It Follows Laugh Riots By Varun Dhawan, Varun Sharma, Johnny Lever (I Thought You Will Bore Me By Trailer But You Were The Real Star Sir) And Man Himself Shah Rukh Khan..
    Rating : 3.5/5 To Film & 0.5 To SRKajol : 4/5

  • Despite a big clash, negative campaigns & shows getting cancelled by protests, Dilwale is recording some crazy numbers all over India.

& If we had a solo release in normal environment, sky could have been the limit for us with collections going over 37cr on non-holiday. Alas!

& Collection more than holiday solo release PRDP in circuits TN-K, Assam & challenging it in WB & Mysore, proves SRK is beyond superstardom.

& also Dilwale has collected much more than Star Wars & Bajirao Mastani cumulatively collected in UAE on day 1. SRK IS WORLD’S BIGGEST MOVIE STAR..

  • My Dilwale review:

Finished. The most entertaining movie of the year by a distance. This exceeded all my expectations by miles. Dilwale is going to rule.

High points: SRK’s Bulgarian entry. SRK & Kajol’s HIMYM inspired date. Car sequences. Varun’s SRK style proposal scene. Gerua.

Dilwale is full of classic SRK Kajol moments with right amount of action, humour & drama. Ypu will fall in love with SRKajol all over again.

Interval. Gripping, entertaining & full of edge of the seat moments so far. SRK & Kajol owns the first half. They look so hot.

The brotherly bond between SRK & Varun is the biggest highlight of the second half. It was humorous in first half but gets emotional later..

High points of second half: Fight sequence of SRK right after interval. Picturization of Daayre. Reunion of SRK Kajol after 15 years.

Varun Dhawan is totally adorable in the movie. He is funny, charming, lovable right from the beginning till the end..

Kriti is so gorgeous & does her part well. Johnny Lever & Sanjay Mishra stand out in supporting cast. Varun Sharma & Boman Irani are okay.

Whatever Dilwale earns this weekend is a bonus for us. The real audience for it will come from the next week vacations. Great repeat value..

I always thought Rohit can never outdo himself & make a better film than Golmaal again but Dilwale proves it wrong. A complete entertainer.

Best Dilwale moment was actually during interval when a boy from BM screening asked me if there’re empty seats in audi if he wants to come.

Btw I was surprised to see a better response to Janam Janam than Gerua & Tukur. The whole auditorium kept shouting throughout the song..

If you love commercial entertainers, you can’t dislike Dilwale unless you went with premeditated mind to hate it. Full of whistling moments..,

  • Dilwale to Beat PRDP opening in Bihar, Kolkata, Mysore, TN, Assam. With 1400 less screens competition non holiday.. SRK _/\_.

  • Whatsoever ….srk is like bajaj brand…outdated but still working bcoz watever status he has gained over d years still getting profit. But question how long such baseless movies can run ? R Indians dat idiotic …old auntie kajol…kirti looking damn hot. Omg…wat chemistry all dese reviews talking bat…all history . Time has changed boss. Best example to support my article …devD was blockbuster n far better dan devdas. Story is same. I liked d way differences between two brothers was explored more nicely in hate story 3 dan prem Ratan dhan payo. Well…bajirao long race horse. …mark my words.

  • Wonderful!

I hope the storm continues. It really hurts to see all kinds of non sense messages floating around and too much negativity.

My kind request to everyone. Please criticize the movie as much as you want and even the artist w.r.t the performance but just to glorify your stars and to pull down SRK, kindly don’t call him anti-national and traitor. Doing photo shop on twitter accounts/messages to show that there is support from terrorist group to SRK and fooling people around is……

How can someone stoop so low to bring down others……..We all know that they are fake messages still it is not funny. It really hurts. While writing this, I had tears in my eyes.

  • Hmmm, I am more interested in Dilwale first day domestic collections. Let’s see if it falls within my prediction (22-26 cr). As far as BM is concerned, its not a threat for Dilwale as its not upto the ,ark to take on a biggie like Dilwale.
The bigger question is, how nicely Dilwale utilizes this advantage. It won’t be surprising, if we see few of BM screens getting shifted to Dilwale.
