Dilwale Music Review

It won’t be an exaggeration to say that soundtracks of almost all films starring Shah Rukh Khan since ‘Om Shanti Om’ have been rather underwhelming. One could argue that the music of ‘My Name Is Khan’ and ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ went well with the theme or that the songs of Ra.One and Chennai Express were immensely popular. But think deep and one would agree that the consistency has been missing. So, when the credit list reads Shah Rukh – Kajol, the excitement levels break the roof. It gets all the more better when its Pritam who’s the captain of the ship as far as music is concerned.

Yes, the music of arguably the biggest release of the year is out and after multiple hearings of all songs, here’s what we think about the soundtrack of Rohit Shetty’s ‘Dilwale’.

Gerua: No SRK-Kajol song has been an ordinary melody! In an interview, Pritam himself declared that he had sleepless nights when he was informed that Kajol had been paired opposite SRK in the film. He had a not-so-simple task in hand: to recreate the magic of this legendary pair and come up with a quintessential SRK-Kajol song. And boy, hasn’t he done an incredible job. It’s a case of ‘love at first listen’ with ‘Gerua’, courtesy a soothing composition filled with a traditional setting (except for the opening 20 seconds that are misfit and strange). The flute in the beginning takes your heart away while Arijit, who has perfected the art of rendering romantic numbers, only ends up raising the bar with Gerua. We bet this one will stay in your playlist for long! Rating – 4.5/5

Manma Emotion Jaage: Moods change as SRK-Kajol make way for the younger pair Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. And as expected, the beats become faster and the mood contemporary! While there is nothing extra ordinary in ‘Manma Emotion Jaage’, it is a kind of song that may not appeal initially, but grows after it is repeatedly played on music channels, stations and parties. A word for Amit Mishra, he infuses palpable energy to this otherwise regular track. Rating – 3/5

Janam Janam: Arijit returns! And while ‘Gerua’ was a celebration of love, ‘Janam Janam’ is intense and melancholy. The result isn’t any different though. Arijit’s voice is at his raw best and you can’t help but fall in love with the way he escalates the tempo in the tune. ‘Meri subah ho tum hi aur tum hi sham ho’, will be stuck on your mind and although you take time to adjust to Antara Mitra’s voice, the fact that you end up liking it means she has done a praiseworthy job. ‘Janam Janam’ is another instant winner all the way. Second chartbuster out of three! Rating – 4.5/5

Premika: Face lights up as we see these two names on the screen- Benny Dayal and Kanika Kapoor. And the way ‘Tu Hai Meri Premika’ begins is equally interesting. You wonder what’s in store till the beats race up and Benny’s peppy voice fills your ears. Arguably a better party number than ‘Manma Emotion’, Premika’s catch line is sure to be on everyone’s lips. It’s a song that could work wonders after its video is out. And assuming that it would be picturized on the ever-so-energetic Varun, we just can’t wait to see the results. This one has all the potential to be a rage among the youth. Rating: 3.5/5

Tukur Tukur: After a set pattern, here comes the most hatke track of the album. How much you like ‘Tukur Tukur’ would totally depend on what kind of music are you in the mood for. Helmed by Arijit Singh once again, it is a fun number all the way. And considering, it will be filmed on the entire cast and may be the song that would light up the end credits, ‘Tukur Tukur’ may rely on visual appeal to get noticed amongst this star studded album. It’s fun and chirpy, all it requires is to be complemented well on screen. It transports us into the beats and sounds of Goa immediately. Rating: 4/5

Daayre: Most albums list their weaker tracks at the end but the story is reverse here. The star of the album, Arijit weaves magic through his voice once again. ‘Daayre’ is a mesmeric number that would transport you to another world. Themed around differences between a couple and why they occur, this would probably work wonders whenever it plays in the film. A fantastic composition by Pritam that gives this album a fitting finale! Rating: 4/5

Theme of Dilwale: Album abhi baaki hai..! Like has been the tradition in the recent times, Dilwale soundtrack ends with a mash-up of sorts by DJ Chetas with an interesting cocktail of all songs. Because the album is consistently hummable, you can give this one a chance.

And our long wait is finally over! Pritam finally gifts us with a soundtrack that matches the expectations from an SRK film. There isn’t a single song that sticks out like a sore thumb. While romance rules the proceedings, oodles of fun and pep have also been loaded in abundance! A big thumbs up to the music of Dilwale.

Rating: ★★★★☆

Favourites: Rang De Tu Mohe Gerua, Janam Janam, Premika, Daayre.

Songs are an important part of Bollywood films. Not only do they help in increasing the pre-release buzz, but they also increase the repeat-value at smaller centres if the film is liked. It’s even more important when two big films are scheduled to release on the same day.

  • Dilwale has got a strong music album,SRK’s best in recent times..

    Advantages of having great music:-
It helps in increasing the buzz, chances of better opening

    Disadvantage:-
If Dilwale underperforms at the boxoffice,SRK fans won’t be able to give an excuse that the music was poor.

  • A winner all the way.
Pritam is definitely in race for Best Music Director of the Year and Arijit is definitely going to win it for gerua or Janam janam.
All the songs are chart-busters from the word go.
Janam janam and gearua are the best songs of the year.

  • Well judged indicine…
Gerua is lavish song just like “Sooraj hua madhamm” of KKKG..
    And its melodious also…
    Arijit Rocks

  • @Babaji

    No need of any excuses.
We have a sureshot winner this time. Nothing can go wrong when you have SRK-Kajol in one frame and behind the camera we have the entertainment king, the hit machine Rohit shetty.

Get ready for the biggest success story of the year.

  • Dilwale music grows on you..
Especially Tukur Tukur and Dayre but on the 3rd or 4th listen they just totally shake you up.
Rest of the songs are chartbuster right from the first listen.
    Arguably the best of 2015!
Not biased but Bajirao Mastani music definetly looks weaker than Dilwale.
Its a classical playlist but yet it doesnt quiet grow on you as Ram-Leela did!

  • Dilwale wil b better than inception, varun has already said dat.also masala moviez can b content oriented too. just wait n watch dilwale wil b the best movie of 2015.it wil b rich in content too.
Even Batman trilogy was blockbustr but it had content too, same wil happen wid dilwale.
Srk wil get his first national award.u can tell by the trailer dat he has given his best performance in dilwale.

  • U gave same rating to PRDP as well as far as I remember. But the songs of Dilwale are much more better. Dilwale could have been given half star more……..Its a perfect mixture of love, energy, soulfulness, youthfulness…….

  • All of Arijit’s recent songs sound the same.Even though he’s good, I’m kinda tired of hearing him in every album.

  • So far pros and cons of dilwale
Pros- srk kajol jodi, christmass release will get 3 open week, rohit shetty, music and lastly varun dhawan the hit machine..
Cons- clash with bm, rohit who is known for his success in comedy and no brainor films trying to put a love story which i believe may decrease the entertainment qutient( hopefully he proves me wrong), and less impressive trailor(cars, cars and only cars)

  • Manma emotion & Premika is the best, varun is looking super handsome in dilwale.

i found Geyrua really dull as srk-kajol lack energy at this age.

  • @Baba Jibon,
We, SRKians never find out any excuse.
    We’ve faith in our product.

Dilwale is the best entertainer of 2015.
Best music album of this year.

  • I seriously hate these shah fans, they are so selfish and mean yaar.

everyone knows Manma emotion is the best song of dilwale and with its colorful video it is being more liked by youth, still these Shah rukh fans vote only for their songs no matter how bad they are.
I know we Varun fans are less in numbers than shah fans but we should be respected too, varun will walk away with the credit in dilwale i am sure now.It will be a tight slap to these shah fans.

  • Change brings results and RCE this time opted for Pritam. Great album.
“Premika” & “Daayre” are nice also.

Everything is going well for Dilwale.
I had always expected from SRK to stop banking on DDLJ & make his every movie a unique. Good Luck for Dilwale.

  • Great songs after a long time in a Sharukh Khan’s movie, something that was missed for too long.
Some people are insecure or afraid of this (Srk-Kajol-Rohit-Pritam-Varun-Kriti) etc combo, which is clearly visible in the social media these days.

  • Mine favorite is Janam Janam, then Gerua, followed by Daayre, then Tukur Tukur, Premika & Manma Emotion Jaage.. After a long time any SRK’s movie music satisfied, fulfilled my expectations..

Janam Janam would be way much better with full video.. the song + video is just PERFECT!!!!
