Dabangg 2 Movie Review

The last release of the year, Dabangg 2 starring Salman Khan as the iconic Chulbul ‘Robinhood’ Pandey. The makers have retained almost all the characters from the original – Sonakshi Sinha plays Rajo, Arbaaz Khan is Makkhi, Vinod Khanna is Chulbul’s father Prajapati Pandey. Popular side characters like Cheddhi Singh and the baddie who’s mobile rings at the wrong time, is also a part of the sequel.

The new additions are Prakash Raj who plays the villain, Deepak Dobriyal and a few others. Malaika Arora Khan returns as Munni, while Kareena Kapoor has a sexy item song titled ‘Fevicol Se’.

So.. is Dabangg 2 double the fun? Is it better than the original? Let’s find out!

Dabangg 2 Review

For a country that unites to celebrate the super-stardom of Salman Khan, reviewing a film like Dabangg 2 is futile. In the last couple of years, an average of two Salman movies have released every year. While critics have thrashed almost all his films, people across the country have flocked to theatres to watch the film first-day-first-show.

With his fan-following and craze at it’s absolute peak, Salman Khan today is beyond the script, director, banner and the film itself.

Dabangg 2 has a wafer-thin plot, too many songs and an overdose of action. Two scenes of Chulbul Pandey’s antics is following by an action sequence and a song – this is repeated in the same order throughout the film. The screenplay and the story has been written to accomodate all the masala ingredients. Arbaaz Khan, who makes his directorial debut, retains every element that made Dabangg a super-success.

Despite all it’s flaws and outdated done-to-death storyline, what makes Dabangg 2 entertaining is Salman Khan. With his unique style of dialogue delivery and larger-than-life presence, Khan is at his charismatic best as Chulbul Pandey. His post-marriage romantic scenes with Sonakshi Sinha are well-executed.

For me, the biggest disappointment was Prakash Raj. He has limited screen time and his character doesn’t really give him enough scope to showcase his acting talent. Another talented actor Deepak Dobriyal is wasted too. The other actors, whether it is Arbaaz Khan, Sonakshi Sinha or Vinod Khanna, all get relegated to the back seat. Mahie Gill has a two minute role.

The music is good – Dagabaaz Re, Dabangg Reloaded and Pandeyji Seeti are chartbusters. Watching the film on a single screen is an experience in itself, as the entire theatre went bonkers for Kareena Kapoor’s Fevicol Se item number! The well-executed action sequences will work big time with the masses.

Overall, Dabangg 2 is Salman Khan’s show all the way. A Christmas treat to his die-hard fans. The rest.. if you loved the first film, you’ll enjoy watching the sequel. At the box office, the film has already opened to a great response. The occupancy is high, despite the fact that the film released on a record number of screens.

Rating: ★★★½☆ Sure shot Blockbuster
