Actor Irrfan Khan, who is currently promoting his upcoming film ‘Madaari’, has questioned the way people are practising fasting and sacrifice in Islam. A controversy has erupted and muslim clerics have asked the actor to concentrate on his film career and not seek publicity.
“The meaning of Qurbani is to sacrifice something which is close to you instead of any goat or sheep which you just buy to sacrifice. Before sacrificing we should share a bond with it otherwise just killing of an animal will not serve the purpose”
“Nowadays we have lost the relevance behind such religious activities and perform these rituals without knowing the meaning behind them” Irrfan was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
“Rather than fasting during Ramzan, people should self-introspect… We Muslims have also made a mockery of Muharram. It is meant for mourning and what we do? Take out (tajiya) processions.”
Adding to his already controversial statement, the actor criticised Muslims for not speaking against terrorism.
“Why Muslims are silent against the issue of terrorism. People should also question the politicians over this issue” he said.
Meanwhile, Muslim clerics have questioned the timing of Irrfan’s comments and asked him not to involve himself in religious issues.
“It would be better if he concentrates on his film career and not make random statements about our religion. He is doing this just for the publicity of his upcoming movie” said Maulana Abdul Wahid Khatri, state secretary of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind.
Irrfan’s comments could snowball into yet another major controversy as the mainstream media has picked up the actor’s comments.
‘Madaari’ releases in theatres on July 15.

I don’t have any idea about Muslim rituals and tradition but I think he’s statement on Terrorism is correct.
Nothing wrong with what he said.It’s extremely sad that a certain section of Muslims who claim to be the true representatives of their religion brainwash other people to believe in so many stupid rituals.One of my Muslim friend used to feel terribly sick during Ramadan period in school.I couldn’t understand which God would like his child to starve that too at an age when he’s not capable of starving for long duration.
Also for many of the Muslims anybody questioning their rituals or Prophet deserves a cruel death even if he belongs to their religion or country.I haven’t witnessed so much amount of intolerance among other religions.Nothing against the Islam religion but unless they are provided with proper education and some influential Muslim people raise their voices the phobia against Islam will only grow further.
