Box office comparison between Shahrukh Khan’s biggest grosser ‘Chennai Express’ and his latest Diwali release ‘Happy New Year’ is interesting because pre-release, the trade pundits expected the latter to surpass the Rohit Shetty directed film.
In 7 days, Happy New Year leads by around Rs 86 lakhs, even though Chennai Express had plenty of holidays in its first week.
It’ll be interesting to compare the day-wise figures in the coming days, because Chennai Express was affected by the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara, while Happy New Year has no competition from big films this weekend. It remains the first choice for cine-goers, which should help the Farah Khan film perform well over the coming weekend.
Do note that the collections of Happy New Year includes business from Tamil and Telugu versions which has contributed around 5.5 crore in its first week. Chennai Express didn’t release in regional versions.

looking at the comparisions
it is trending just like ce except on sunday on which hny failed to register a big jump. rest of the days…the trend is almost similar.
if ce can go upto 227 crore even facing tough competition from a big budget sequel of highly acclaimed movie within the fisrt week…how the hell will hny not do more than that with negligible competition.
even the shaukeens is not looking that promising to me.
ce earned good amount on friday due to 15th august.
hny will compensate that with big jump on sunday.
then mohrram falling on tuesday and guru nanak jayanti falling on thursday will give additional boost to the collections.
why everybody is in so much hurry to declare it as a failure.
This is a fair comparision, HNY to CE.
Looking at the trend, the important point to note here is that even though Diwali is the biggest holiday festival, HNY has failed to beat CE by a good margin.
Secondly, CE got holidays in between the weeks, that helped it gain more footfalls during this time and the wom spread further that eventually helped it get past 200 cr.
CE utilised its holiday well bcuz the wom was more positive than HNY. However, it seems HNY wom is not good and hence it is stuttering unlike last year diwali release K3, which prospered with good wom during the weeks.
HNY thus looks doubtful to even beat CE record.
In short, the movie is an underperformer if the hype, star cast and other advantages are taken in to account.
The top grossers of all time thus remain D3, K3 and Kick.
CE VS HNY !! This is true comparison . Comparing SRK wid other actors is not reasonable. There is only one King khan !!!

CE is directed by poor director who gave tons of 100+ crores hits by copying South BB REMAKES after REMAKE with different actors (Devgan)
HNY director has never made a single 100+ crore movie and her last one was utter FLOP (TMK)
CE is only 2 hrs long (2hrs 14 mins)
HNY is 3 hrs long (3 hrs 7 mins)
hahaha it is worst than my prediction my prediction was atleast 160cr but it is 157 and now today report shows that film is totally crashed in many centres it took opening of 10to15% lol.
Buzz is that SRK has requested Arbaaz Khan to convince Salman Khan for a cameo in his next film FAN.. to save his sinking career (like KKHH)

Since the day I saw happy new year, I am surprised of two things; No. 1 – the negativity associated with the film because I genuinely found the movie entertaining. Was it because this was a movie directed by Sajid’s sister? No. 2 – Why were the reviews very negative? This movie has everything. Anyway, speaking of collections, I confidently feel this movie will absolutely break CE (looking at the current trends), may break Kick or may stay between CE and Kick.
@Digwin because your king has done huge i mean biggest promotion for any movie till date it had deepika,multistarrer,diwali holiday but it failed to beat pre eid release kick so it is failure.today happy new year has taken a poor start of around 10to 15%.too much fun.

That’s how srk’s movie budget works. It is directly proportional to the collections of the movie. If the movie falls, the budget falls too. lol.
However, one thing srk’s PR machinery don’t know is that the movie budget is something which is alread spent and you can’t keep on decreasing it. lol.
