Celebrating a Legend

Dilip Kumar’s performance has been regarded as the epitome of emoting in Indian Cinema. He is truely one and one of the kind.

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar will be bestowed an award for being a living legend and thespian, from the industry’s own Dadasaheb Phalke Academy which represents 36 cine associations.

The Academy, instituted in 2000 under the chairmanship of industry veteran Santosh Singh Jain gives out awards annually in recognition of contribution to Indian cinema on April 30, the birth anniversary of the father of Indian cinema.

Announcing the award, Jain said that apart from Dilip Kumar 12 members of the film fraternity will be honoured at Bhaidas Hall at Juhu on Phalke Jayanti day. Actor Jeetendra too will be given the Academy award for his contribution to the Indian film industry. Other veteran actors to receive the award are Bina Rai of Aarkali fame, Sushila Rani Patel, Shashikala, Kum Kum, Aroona Irani and Amrita Rao for her role in Vivah, and veteran directors Gulshan Bahl, Lekh Tondon, producers Kamal Kumar Barjatya and Rajkumar Barjatya, and Gautam Adhikari of Sab TV.

From the South, veteran producer R. Laxman from Karnataka, K.Rajgopal of the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce and M.C.Punnoose (Appachan), noted film producer and studio owner from Kerala will be honoured.

Proceedings during the day will include the unveiling of original Phalke portraits besides the Phalke Geet Mala album comprising five songs and Phalke Vandana and Phalke Amarkatha.

Jain said that the Academy has prepared Phalke idols to be placed in offices of producers, distributors and exhibitors. These idols can be bought from the Academy office after they are unveiled at the Phalke Jayanti day celebrations.
