Aamir Khan has done it again. Yet another Aamir Khan movie will be sent as India’s official entry for the Oscars and what’s more the movie is directed by Aamir himself! Yes, we are talking about the critically acclaimed and super successful (at the boxoffice) Taare Zameen Par.
Soon as the news broke out, the first big question that comes to mind is, can Aamir Khan do what he did with Lagaan? Can the movie make it to the Oscar shortlist and get India its first nomination since Lagaan?
Some are of the opinion that we shouldn’t care much about the Academy Awards. Why should we care about an award and its jury who dont even understand Indian Cinema?
Amitabh Bachchan never really cared much about the Oscars and was often heard saying, they dont care much about our awards, why should we? But do we have trustworthy, clean awards here? Aamir has totally ditched every single commercial awards in India. He only accepts the National awards and the Oscar of course!
The industry believes Aamir has a great chance this time around. He has the experience and the knowledge to gain support from the Academy Award jury. A lot depends on the competition from the other films in the Foreign award category too!

We should be proud that someone among us is making the world notice us, INDIA, with the award & not fight among ourselves on petty issues.
Indicine Team: I couldn’t understand the para which u mentioned about Lagaan.. I heard that Lagaan was nominated for Oscar but didn’t win.. so is that truth? ( it was a deserving movie)
And yes.. TZP worth oscar( and I’m sure it will win) he must give it a try ’cause if TZP didn’t win at oscar awards, then no other indian movies will make it at this function because bollywood movies r all masala movies, good for Asian people to watch e.g. Rang de Basanti.. when I heard that Aamir wanted to send this movies for this function, I just (laughed!), telling myself: this movie was a super hit in India, but western people won’t consider it as a good movie! ( and it wasn’t a good movie for Aamir, I didn’t like it) and then he presented Range de Basanit for Bafata, british awards and also it didn’t win, and instead of this, I thought if bollywood presented “Umrao Jaan” the remake, which was a flop for Indian people, definitely it would’ve won! because western people aren’t aware of some minor stuff in the movie which I heard that was the reason for the movie to be a flop!
I heard that Sarkar Raj has been included in the same list for oscar too, is that true?
No Sarkar Raj hasnt been sent! The only Indian official entry for the Academy Awards 2009 is Taare Zameen Par.
Lagaan was indeed nominated in Best Foreign Film category. It lost to No Man’s Land.
I read this news about Sarkar Raj on bollywoodbuzz.com a while ago, u say it’s not true, I don’t know. I think only TZP is worth oscar and Chakde India
