Answer: Because PK releases on a working day, the opening day collections of Happy New Year is out of reach. Breaking the records of Dhoom 3, which released on a working day, would be tough too.
We spoke to a few exhibitors and distributors about the same. Most believe the collections will be somewhere between 25-28 crore on Day 1, which is excellent for a working day. At best, the 30 crore mark would be surpassed, is what they say. The reason is, PK has limited appeal towards the masses and at smaller centres would rely on word-of-mouth.
At multiplexes the film will be huge, but release on a working day will mean that the chances of 35 cr+ is very less.

Answer: If Lingaa does affect PK, the impact would only be felt in South Indian states like Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Even in these centres, PK has huge pre-release buzz. ‘Class movies’ like these tend to perform well in Tamilnadu and Mysore circuit, so unless PK disappoints, Lingaa won’t affect the Aamir Khan starrer.

HNY has zero records except opening day and weekend. All other records belong to Dhoom 3. And biggest hit of the year so far is Kick not HNY.
PK is not here to break opening day/weekends records…but sure has fair chance to break lifetime record collections…or atmost highest grosser of year….
SRK ‘s record of highest first day collection and highest weekend collection will be out of reach for all other stars.

Even though if it collects less than 50% of HNY on its opening day, I am pretty sure it will surpass HNY’s lifetime collections in India.
Having said that, I think 30 crore opening is still on, 25+ crore looks certain. We can’t compare its buzz to Dhoom 3’s buzz despite of Raju – Aamir reunion, I had said it earlier this year in most awaited movies article that it won’t be able to beat Dhoom 3’s records in overseas, and I still stand behind it. But, it has very good chance to collect 300 crore in India should the content is as good as 3 Idiots.
pk is the movie to win heart and make us proud of bollywood.no one care about so called record breaking crape movies which does not remain in mind or heart after one week of release.

Why RDB or TZP? Why not like Lage Raho Munna Bhai? It was blockbuster from day 1 but it also garnered great amount of acclaim. RDB and TZP were intense stories. Humor was very less in both these movies.
While RH’s all 3 movies were comedies. Comedies are generally better received than intense movies. I think Pk will go more like Munna Bhai 2 than TZP.

Yes opening day and opening weekend is tough..But it will get 2,3 holidays in its 2nd,3rd weeks so collection will be boasted …..For me Lingaa will definitely affect opening weekend of PK remaining depends on content
It’s a cup of tea for a megastar aamir to smash the records of a small Starcast multistarrer movie like crappy $hit year’s record. Lifetime of pk will surely be more than 350 crores. Saroooook will keep chasing it for next 7-8 years, and will probably break it when he will play a father’s role in some young superstar’s film in future. Lol.
