With less than 3 weeks to go for the release of Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2, it’s time to make some box-office predictions.
SRK’s last release, the spectacularly hyped Ra One, opened to a historic response at the box-office. The film recorded the highest single day collections in history. But unfortunately, it’s not the star, but the content that is ‘king’.
As a film, Ra One disappointed big time and the audience verdict was clear as early as Saturday. The makers were lucky to have an extended 5 day weekend, without which it would have probably failed to even cross the 100 crore mark. But all is well, that ends well. The film did decent business both domestically and internationally, recovered it’s investment and was a box-office HIT.
Moving on, it’s time for the evil superhero, Don. The promotions have, surprisingly, been low-key. Which could mean, the makers are confident of the film (much like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Chak De India). Farhan Akhtar is a good director. All his films – Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya and Don – were well-directed films. But after a 5 year long hiatus from directed, during which he did well as an actor, does Farhan still have it in him as a director?
For Shahrukh Khan, the stakes are high once again. He needs a clean-HIT to re-establish his position at the top. Going purely by the box-office collections in India, both Aamir and Salman are ahead of SRK. Aamir’s 2009 release 3 Idiots, did almost 2 times the business and all three Salman Khan films have grossed more than Ra One.

By the promos, DON2 looks a very slick n edge of the sit entertainer. With SRK in the central character, it guarantees a huge opening resulting to a great weekend. Few things need to be considered, firstly, how is the script ??? becoz, a super-star like SRK can give a phenomenal opening in the ticket window but for a long run and eventually to become a “Blockbuster”, a movie should have a great story / content. Secondly, promotion remains in the lower side, its less than 3 weeks left for release. Lastly, SRK’s last outing, Ra.One, performed not upto the expectations of the paying public, thus, there lies a signal of caution within the public that how this movie (DON2) will be ??? Thats where the word of mouth comes into play a very vital role for a movie to earn big revenues. All said and done, “Script” remains the main protagonist of a film. DON2 will cross the 100 crore mark quite easily because in today’s time with high ticket prices and huge releases (no. of screens), to cross 100 crore, its not that though for a SRK film but to beat Bodyguard or Dabaang or Ready, DON2 should have a very good content and a positive word of mouth.
From promos don 2 is looking very promising. For me i think it will break record of bodyguard, dabang easily. Even its a threat for 3 idiots record as well no doubt all depends on content. My best wishes to srk nd don 2.

Yes sure that Don 2 will get good opening(may be some effect due to Ra.Ones bad perform) because all 3 Khans have this capability.
But for beat Bodyguard or Dabangg Don 2 should have good script & more imp is good word of mouth.
But looking at the low promotions i think Srk is sure that Don 2 has a good script & it will perform well or may be after Ra.Ones result,which got affected due to hype promotions srk going to remain away from promotions this time.

Thanks for your kind appreciation. I would like to emphasis on one thing from your comment, i.e, if SRK stays away from promoting DON2 thinking that RA.One’s performance in the ticket window was affected due to over promotion then it will be a negative strategy from the makers of DON2 because a movie runs on its merit (good content). In case of RA.One, SRK, Kareena along with the child artiste tried to make it a good movie but the narration fails badly in the post-interval period. The performance of RA.One which is lower than what was expected from it was due to loose script. In other way, it can be concluded that over promotion or hype helped the film to cross 100 crore mark quite comfortable in the first week (9 days week). Thus, without deviating from the point, I would like to say, SRK should promote DON2 through a strong promotional capaign as the paying public whether in multiplexes or in the single screens in the heartland of India, should be well aware of the movie.
well i think if the content is good , it may break bodyguard and dabangg , but 3 idiots record seems unreachable . reason – an action packed movie will run big time in single screens..not so in multiplexes
and but movie looks to be a hell of a piece . with srk , great opening is assured ..
for low promotion :- srk will start touring cities from 12th december , so they will promote it with all guns blazing …

But i think there should be a limit of promotions.
More promotion increases the expectations of the public.
Ra.One is most promoted film till date so expectations about Ra.One was also high but it failed way below the expectations & thats why it became the hunt of bad word of mouth.
I would like to add one more thing, i.e, the opening weekend record held by RA.One (all versions) is safe because DON2 will have only 3 days (normal: starting from friday) whereas RA.One had a 5 days weekend (starting from Wednesday). DON2 will strike gold in the ticket window on 25th Dec (Sunday) as it is holiday, turnout of the family audiences will be huge, if and only if, DON2 has a very good script and a positive word of mouth, who knows in all probability, SRK’s DON2 can break the single day collection record which is held by another SRK movie (RA.One on 27.10.2011). But there lies a negative aspect about DON2, i.e, being an action flick, chances are there that less number of family audiences will turn out, though there are exceptions, we have movies like Ghajni, Dabaang, Ghayal, Singham, to name a few, which has turn out to be Blockbusters with the help of family audiences and repeat viewing.

If DON2 has a good content and a positive word of mouth, then it might easily cross the box office collections of Singham, Ghajni, Ready and RA.One. But to beat Dabaang or Bodyguard, DON2 should have a strong repeat viewing, unless it might end up in 115-130 crore mark (lifetime). Another, interesting aspect is if DON2 has a poor content and the narration fails, it might not able to cross 90 crore mark, since it is an action flick. Lets hope for the best.
DON2 ..will easily end up scoring 100cr at min..Taking SRK to the top of the rankings..again
DON2 will yet again be 3rd Film for SRK to cross 200Cr worldwide mark
