The big question on Friday is going to be about the kind of initial that Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ takes, as it goes up against Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’. The trailer and the aggressive promotional campaign have both helped create quite a lot of buzz around ‘Rustom’, even though the response to the advance booking of both films isn’t upto expectations.
Trade sources say, the interest for ‘Rustom’ at metro cities is higher than Akshay’s last two films – ‘Housefull 3’ and ‘Airlift’.
‘Airlift’ which was targeted at the multiplex audience collected Rs 12.35 crore on its opening day, while ‘Housefull 3’ which was a franchise film and appealed to a larger section of the audience, collected Rs 15.21 crore.
Due to the clash, ‘Rustom’ will be running on fewer shows at multiplexes. So anything in between the first day of ‘Airlift’ and ‘Housefull 3’ would be a excellent opening day total for ‘Rustom’.

I think it ll open in the range of 13-14cr due to class.
Had it been a solo release wid d kind of buzz and hype it has even 20cr was on even after being limited appeal.
This can only b done by akshay Kumar 3rd release in seven month stil curiosity for his film is no lesser den anyone.
Not it collects 14cr.. because tomorrow is not a holiday.. on Sunday it collects 19cr

Now a days you better have a Multiplex oriented movie rather than Single Screen oriented movie… Ticket prices make a lot of difference. Rustom will surely Lead in Delhi, Punjab & Mumbai belt while MJ may be at par or even ahead in Central India & few other parts… However, I expect Rustom to open at 14+ and MJ at around 11-12… My Tickets for Rustom 9:00 am show are booked :)

Sorry to say, but this buzz is only for media, people around me either don’t know about Rustom, or prefer MD. So, maybe 11cr opening day, with potential for higher or lower based on immediate WOM. I could be wrong, of course.

Honestly speaking I didn’t find its trailer that much good which media has overhyped. It is just average trailer. I will not surprised if rustam become flop despite its buzz and controlled budget.
As akki fan I also think Hrithik is bigger than akki . Rustom opening 13 cr , lifetime if more than 100 crore it will be bonus .
MD is bigger than Rustom Opening 15 crore , lifetime 140 will be bonus .

@indicine, why is that a larger section of Bollywood is against Mohenjo Daro? Is it because of the Kangana Ranaut incident? Also feel, the lifetime prediction for Mohenjo daro of 93 crores is too way ward. I feel the movie should do anywhere around 120-150 crore,.

His solo release can’t get enough opening then his movie clashing with superstar kya khaakh me opening degi. Maximum 9 cr opening. No more than that.
Looks very tough. It should be lower than ‘Airlift’ due to clash with ‘MohenjoDaro’. I wouldn’t bet on it. It could have been possible as a solo release.
Is advance booking lower than expected by considering the fact they are non-holiday releases? Wasn’t it always expected, though? Holidays increase the opening of big movies by more than 30%. No such advantage for either film.
