Q. Though Bajirao Mastani might have won the clash domestically. Still Dilwale is far more profitable than Bajirao. Don’t you think verdict of Dilwale will be same as Bajirao Mastani?
A. Verdicts are confusing these days, not just for the people who follow collections and verdicts, but even for us.. because there are so many factors involved. In today’s times, there is tremendous pressure on websites like us and even trade analysts to be more lenient. Verdicts are no longer strict. Trade analysts like Komal Nahta (Film Information, ETC) used to be very strict when it came to verdicts before, but now even they follow official collections and verdicts. One of the reasons for this is to create perception that a film starring a big actor hasn’t failed and two, there is pressure from fans – which has only increased because of social media.
In olden times, verdicts used to given purely on the basis of recovery of domestic distributors. If that’s the case, Dilwale is a FLOP in India. There are no two ways about this. Shah Rukh Khan sold territories for a high price to distributors and some of them haven’t even recovered half of their investment. Rajasthan distributor, who paid 8.5 crore for the film, will lose about 4.5 crore of his investment. The verdict simply does not matter. The trade knows the truth and that is, Dilwale has failed in the domestic market. The same applies to even a film like Jai Ho.
For Shah Rukh Khan, the producer, Dilwale is a hugely profitable film. The overseas share could be as high as 65 crore plus and that along with satellite rights, he would have recovered his investment. Recovery from domestic, music and everything else are his profits – which all combined could be close to Rs 100 crore. But these profits come at a cost of local distributors suffering huge losses. In other words, Dilwale would have been profitable for Shah Rukh Khan even if it collected 10 crore in India or didn’t release at all.
Since Dilwale has done blockbuster business in the overseas markets, it’s final overall verdict would be Above Average or Semi Hit in the best case.
On the other hand, since you ask about Bajirao Mastani, the film is a profitable venture for everyone involved. No one will lose money. The simple reason for this is, Bajirao Mastani has over-performed both in overseas and domestic markets. It has exceeded expectations wherever it has released. Dilwale has only performed well overseas.

It is true that salman is in peak of his career but he is the not biggest superstar now.. again i said he is the not biggest stardom at present. there are two more superstar who is challenging against him. 100cr in 3days but 210cr lifetime.. is this the sign of biggest stardom???. happy new year did the same business a years back. Yes, srk’s dilwale disappoint his fans and all the trade experts but it doesn’t mean his upcoming movies will be crap too. As of now, after i saw teaser, raees and fan can surprise the audience and it has potential to wow even his haters like you also. sometimes failed and sometimes succeeds, this is the part & parcel, cycle of life.

According to BOI ,budget of # PRDP is 180 crore without salmans renumeration & budget of #dilwale is 100 without shahrukhs renumeration. Will verdict of both not be the same?
landing cost: 150cr
domestic: 129cr* (difficult to reach 150 even if we go with manipulative fig.)
and films verdicts are highly depend on domestic gross not on how it will performed in overseas so don’t blabber about overseas collections now !!!

Jai has low budget n less marketed movie of salman khan, even the ticket prices had been kept low by salman himself while dil wale was best marketed movie of 2015 and ticket prices were well high….please make some sense now
Ever since Dilwale released, i can see lot of people commenting against it…It seems that they have no other job…I can see people commenting the same bull shit again and again in the same articles just to prove their point..Pity to those people..You can hate SRK, but u cannot ignore some facts
1) Dilwale is the worst movie from SRK after Ra One..Agreed. But movie quality is subjective and it varies from one to another. There are many people who like to watch a movie like Dilwale which has some good moments and Entertain you for 2.5 hours. To be honest , the movie started really well with those Flash back moments and Kajol’s actual identity scenes…But somehow Rohit Shetty lost the control in the script after Interval. Clearly they were clue less over the Villain and Climax was pathetic. Overall its an average movie with some really good comedy moments in First half and good songs. But people here are commenting as if this is the worst movie in the history of Bollywood. Dilwale will get an Oscar in quality if compared to craps like Jai Ho. So try to see in that way and hope for better movies from Rohit Shetty in the future
2) Now coming to the Box office point of view, Few people are completely blind i guess as they are simply commenting without checking any fact. Some say Ranveer is a bigger star than SRK..Some Say SRK is finished. Grow Up guys. Dilwale grossed around 300 cr world wide after clashing with BM in India and Star Wars in Overseas. Its not a simple thing. Even in India it will have around 140-145 cr Net . BM grossed more in India mainly becoz it was a better movie and Eros was a better distributer compared to Red Chillies. They actually succeeded in restricting Dilwale in the first weekend by blocking major single screens. If Dilwale was a solo release, it wud have collected 100+ cr easily in first weekend and 150+ cr in first week even in worst case scenario. Apart from that there were lot of Protests which leaded to Cancellation on shows in the crucial first weekend. The Salman and Aamir Fans here are talking becoz they haven’t faced such a situation in the recent times. Aamir Fans knows what happened to Talaash when it was released out side Christmas and same for Salman Fans for Jai Ho…Even with Solo release Jai Ho failed to cross 110 cr and they are mocking SRK for Dilwale which crossed 140 cr with Clash..Lol…
3) Now coming to Sultan vs Raees Clash , I hope SRK wont shift the release so that these Brainless SRK haters can learn some lessons…In a clash, always content wins…Big movie will take better opening but better movie will eventually collect more..It will happen with any Star….Just imagine PRDP clash with BM during Christmas…I am sure it wont even cross 120 cr in India…Even with Solo release and 4500 screens It couldn’t break HNY opening day record…Now there is no excuse for that as both PRDP and HNY released on the same Holiday with 500 screens less for HNY and lesser ticket Prices. So before commenting nonsense check the facts about the star power of SRK. If Raees and Sultan clash on Eid, then the movie with better content will gross more…And for opening, both movies will be in the same range if screens are same…SRK and Salman has a similar stardom in Mass areas though SRK is a bigger star in Multiplexes.
Agree with Indicine, verdicts are now a days not stricts. Whatever the fact is dilwale may be has budget less than BM, but it sold higher prices to distributer just like Jai ho. While BM has higher budget for producers but sold to distributors for reasonal prices. In case of Dilwale Makers made profit and distributer loose while in BM everybody had made profit no matter less or more.
I think Kank,Mnik were also the films where trade declared them hits because of there overseas business. While we can’t understand why Ra1 declared hit when all distributees in domestic market loose money and distributer share from overseas+domestic were less than 100cr. Lucky srk.
@salmanfan 8:17pm : Well said ?… 100 % agree with u… Salman Bhai was by far much bigger and much popular star compared to Srk in whole 1989,-1999 with most no. of Superhits,HGOTD,HGOTY’s he has unparalleled megastardom as compared to Srk… Srk is consistent but he doesn’t have guts to deliver landmark/trend setting cinemas which bhai did with MPK,HAHK,DABANGG,BB… even his milestone movie DDLJ is not even an HGOAT… he ruled Bollywood from 2000-2007… that was his golden era but from 2008 upto now Only Aamir Khan and Bhai are ruling Bollywood and Srk is struggling for 4th spot !!! that’s the truth !!!!

Just one question
If a movie ( DILWALE) budget is 105 crores and its a flop then how a movie (Bajirao Mastani) budget is 130’crore minimum is a Hit with approx equal distributor share in India and far less in Overseas.
I am waiting for your answer and I have a fair enough knowledge anout trade and verdict and almost follow all the websites including you. Also I am not a SRK fan or anybody fan, I just follow everyone because I am trying to be a Film Analyst.

Now come to your point. According to PRDP collected 41cr on opening day from 4500 screens with 80-85% occuoancy and higher ticket price is questionable. But hny collected 45cr on opening day from only 4000 screens and lower ticket price with same kind of occupancy is fine!!! You DOUBLE STANDARD ki Dukan chal hattt!!!

Budjet is 145cr total collection in India 145cr and overseas it will be 135cr so total collection will be 280cr then how can Dilwale will be above average it should be clean Hit even superhit.Even if you take only Distributor share then also it will 72cr in India and 67 so total will be 139 then also it is clean Hit..Only some distributor loss money doest not make movie flop if same goes to Dabang2 and Jai ho then both movie was huge flop because distributor loss money.
