Barely a month ago, Chennai Express and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again were set to face-off during Eid. Satyagraha was slated for release on August 23rd and Shoojit Sircar’s Madras Cafe was set to arrive on August 30th.
In an effort to avoid a clash, Shahrukh Khan met Jeetendra and the two mutually decided to shift OUATIMA ahead. Balaji Motion Pictures officially announced that the film would release on Independence Day. They also, quite surprisingly, changed the title of the film to Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara.
August 2013 Releases
Soon after the announcement, there were murmurs in the industry that Prakash Jha’s Satyagraha would be postponed to August 30 and the rumours turned out to be true. This meant that the film would now clash with Madras Cafe, John Abraham’s second home-production after Vicky Donor.
John was left with 2 options – stick to his earlier announced date or release his film on August 23rd. Postponing the film was never an option as more than 8 medium to big budget releases are scheduled for theatrical release in September and October. He chose to avoid the clash, as Satyagraha is a star-studded film, and instead prepone his film by a week.
Below is a confirmed list of major Bollywood movie releases in August 2013.
- Thursday 8th August 2013 – Chennai Express (7 open days)
- Thursday 15th August 2013 – Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Again (8 open days)
- Friday 23rd August 2013 – Madras Cafe
- Friday 30th August 2013 – Satyagraha
@Boss SRK is miles ahead of Akshay in type of role. SRK gave HIT in India & BLOCKBUSTER in overseas while playing DON in DON 1 & DON2.
i dont care about that which film collects more … I likes to watch good movie with good acting .. In august i definitly watch outimd and satyagraha..
Srk fans don’t hate aki then why aki fans hate srk, ce get totally 7 free day without any compitition, ouatim get 1st week share with ce and 2nd week share with ce and mc. Its a common sense ce get more benifit if anyone think doubt then just wait till 8aug, you got your answere. Ce become yjhd and ouatimd become ypd2.

lets go by your senses ce gets 3500 screens,1500 and 1000 screens resp in 1st 2nd and 3rd week than total is 6000 screens in 3 weeks whereas outimd will get 2500,1500,1000screens than its total will b 5000 screens in 3 week than how can you say outimd will earn more than ce,and i dont think outimd will show huge nos in ss as it seems multiplex movie 4m trailers,and srk rules in multiplex

As far ur second point is concerned, Ra one had highest single record then and don 2 had highest non holiday record. Both record are now with ek tha tiger and YJHD
Check any boxoffice site and see with ur won eyes that Don 2 1st day record was never broken by rowdy rathode. Akshay never had single record in his name. Previously he was compared to sunil shetty and now to Ajay devgan. Pehle apne star kee aukad toh dekhiye, phir aana ladne SRK fans ke saat
SRK is king and king dont need full holdiay, partial holiday is enough to break or creat any sort of record
@romance express, all your dreams would be shattered on 8th aug, chennai express will be declared as an all time disaster, ouatimd will crush over it. srk will offically retire after it.

One thing is sure CE will never break ETT opening day collection. srk aint Salman to give such a huge opening. srk fans be ready to come up with new excuses after Aug 8.

So Chennai Express vs OUATIMD why these other films makes any sense with these movies opening records are in threat but Remember only the movie which will win audiences heart will be boxoffice winner where these Satyagraha or MC are just critically appreciated movies

don 2 weekend collection was 46cr and Rowdy Rathore opening weekend was 48 cr. RR had the highest opening record for non-holiday releases at that time. Don2 was a holiday release.
@soroop: remind you one thing it will be release on 8-Aug-2013 which is working day friday, EID will be on 9 or 10 August I don’t think it will be maximum 22-25 crore opening day next day it might be same if EID.
@krishna DON2 collected 48.39 crores in its weekend.Check any good or recognised site except boxoffice.india. It is purely a fake site which was prooved at the time of YJHD when all the other sites were showing 19.45 crores opening collection,that site was showing 20 crore + opening.
