Biggest Bollywood Hits of 2013 (Expected)

Article by film critic and trade analyst Joginder Tuteja

2013 has just begun and bets are already being placed. In fact this is one of those rare years (just like it was in 2012) when every superstar in the Top 10 has a release to his name. With several competent directors, who know how to balance content with commercial ingredients, bringing their products as well, 2013 should see a handful of films entering the 200 crore club.

1. Dhoom 3Dhoom 3

‘Dhoom 3’ should be lavish dessert waiting to be savoured in Christmas 2013. Frankly, if ever there was a popcorn outing that made the audience want for more, it has to be the ‘Dhoom’ franchise. With Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif joining the show along with Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, this high adrenaline thrilling outing is expected to set new records and is already being pegged as a definite contestant for the 200 crore club.

2. Krrish 3Krrish 3

Years in the making and expected to be nothing less than a blockbuster outing for the ‘baap-beta jodi’ of Roshans, ‘Krrish 3’ carries only one burden and that is that of expectations. However, now that Roshans have declared a Diwali arrival, the countdown has begun. One waits to see the kind of technological advancements that this Hrithik Roshan starrer has made with Rakesh Roshan ensuring some high quotient dramatic offering. This one has in it to be really huge all over and 200 crores is on the cards.

3. Chennai ExpressChennai Express

The film is expected to be a biggie that should help Shahrukh Khan make his way into the masses, and that too in a very big manner. Considering the fact that it is none less than Rohit Shetty who is at the helm of affairs, there is no reason why it should not be possible. The film is extremely important for Shahrukh Khan and early reports suggest that this one is a rollicking entertainer in the offering. For his millions of fans worldwide, ‘Chennai Express’ would be the most hyped film on its release and while 100 crores would be a cakewalk, it remains to be seen how much distance the film can cover.

4. Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2

‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’ is easily the most anticipated film of Akshay Kumar in 2013. The recall value of the Ajay Devgn-Emraan Hashmi is very strong and now that Milan Luthria has promised a true blue sequel here, the expectations are only soaring with every passing month. While Akshay is all set to don the part of Dawood Ibrahim in the film, there are young entrants like Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha bringing a different spark to this dramatic tale. Ekta Kapoor has bet big money on the film and if it indeed makes it for the Eid release, one can well expect several records to be shattered.

5. HimmatwalaHimmatwala

Ajay Devgn and Sajid Khan – Both are on a roll and have proven their credentials over the years. With the duo coming together for the first time, it is expected that ‘Himmatwala’ would be the ‘baap’ of all entertainers. While the remake factor further tilts balance in its favour, the very fact that the film is expected to be a no-holds-bar unabashed affair should make it all the more interesting. Sajid Khan has declared that he won’t deliver a flop at the box office and that should be music to his producers ears.

Note: Salman Khan’s film with Sohail Khan is also on the cards. However with no title, release date, co-star or anything else being officially announced, it would be unfair to include the film in Top-5 expected grossers, as yet.

Vote: Which of the films would be the biggest grossers in months to come?
