Befikre Trailer Review, Trade and Audience Response

The Befikre trailer was launched near the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris on 10th October. The response to the trailer has been ‘mixed to negative’ with both the trade and the audience not liking most of what they saw in the trailer.

However, once the trailer is accepted for what it is and not compared to previous ‘family films’ directed by Aditya Chopra, it does promise to be a fun ride, especially for the urban youth.

We have been asking a lot of people about the trailer, so here are some of the positive things that have been said:

  • Ranveer is fantastic, brings a lot of energy and innocence. Trailer aside, the actor is loved, it’ll be his first film after Bajirao Mastani, so the youth will definitely come to watch him”
  • “The dare games were entertaining, hope to see more of it in the film”
  • “The film promises to be a visual treat as Paris has been captured like never before”
  • “Didn’t like it on first watch, but on repeat-viewing the trailer a couple of times and accepting the film for what it is, I found the trailer to be ‘time pass‘ and ‘entertaining‘”

Coming to the negatives:

  • “What’s wrong with Vaani Kapoor” is a message that we have received from a lot of people, she’s been disliked. Lips, jaw-line and her overall appearance not what it was in ‘Shuddh Desi Romance’, who’s to be blamed?
  • “Didn’t expect such a pathetic trailer from someone like Aditya Chopra, it doesn’t even look like he’s directed the film” said a trade veteran – expected response as the trade is usually quite dismissive about such films.
  • “Expected better music
  • “Too many kissing and making out scenes, too vulgar..”

What the makers can do to turn things around, to change perception and the negativity:

  • Cut down on the kissing excess, every poster had one and trailer is filled with it too. It doesn’t sell anymore, people don’t pay to watch kissing scenes. In fact, it has become a major negative as the most liked comment on Youtube is “Emraan hashmi director hai kya iska” There are better ways to highlight ‘carefree’.
  • Instead, release promos that highlight those ’dare games’. Make the film look more like a fun-ride, an entertaining youth film.. not one where the lead couple is desperate to make out. Smart marketing from here on, could really turn things in favour of the film.
  • Music is going to be important, Aditya Chopra has never failed to impress when it comes to the music of his films (directorial), expectations are high from the Befikre album.
  • Show more of Ranveer Singh and less of Vaani Kapoor in the promos (if that’s possible).

Putting the response into numbers:

  • We asked 26 people in the trade: 2 of them said the trailer is ‘good’, 9 said ‘average’ and 15 said ‘bad/very poor/pathetic’.
  • Audience: On our Twitter poll, we asked our followers if they liked trailer, 30% voted for YES, 70% for NO. Outside the internet world, people have generally disliked the trailer too.
  • Our Rating: 6 on 10, expected better, but it isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be.

  • Those who are hating the trailer are doing it out of jealousy. The movie will be a hit among youth and these haters will be crying.

  • @indicine This is hands down one of your best articles. Such an objective, detailed view on every aspect of the trailer & the public perception. Hope someone from YRF reads it. The trailer is fun once you accept it for what it is, a carefree, fun ride.

  • Don’t know why so much hate. The trailer is bold and unlike the Ekta kapoor serial type romance shown in movies. Brilliant.

  • Most loved and watched movie of this Decade ? Bajrangi Bhaijaan..
Biggest Block buster of the Year so far ? Sultan..
Biggest Blockbuster ever adj for Inflation ? Hum APke Hai Kaun
No. of Cheap ,Vulgar ,Needless Nude and kissing scenes in these Movies ? ZERO

Being Liberal ,Modern and forward doesnt mean being Shameless..
    1/10

  • Adi and KJo tried something different without SRK and as per trailers have failed miserably. The reason isn’t that there is no SRK but because they are going out of the way and directing different things moreover vulgarity. Wish Adi had made smthng unique like DDLJ MOHABBATEIN or RNBJ. Will wait for the promos, if promos are good then only will wait for the reviews. Music is no concern.

Trailer rating 3/10 nothing except the locales match Adi’s direction.

  • Why are so many regressive illiterates hating the trailer?
Kissing is part of romance, that is realistic. It happens in real life.
What do you think, couples keep dancing around trees like they show in older movies? Ha Ha.

  • Some morons still think romance is dancing around trees. It is much more than that. Don’t know why these people faint at the sight of kissing.
    Grow up.

  • Prior this move i still remember indicine published an artical relating this movie it was something like this yash raj going to announce something big in mid night and plp’s expectation were too high and went over the head and comment was flooded in comment box wid salman or srk in Dhoom 4 . Throwing 400 crs next,Adi blockbuster director bla bla then next day yrf released one letter which was completely full of adi’s own imagination shit which he talked wid his late father yash ji. This what happen if u try to bring ur stupid dream in reality. You can dream to achieve goal in life not every daily stupid dream u can make it possible?? jagoo adi shubahuh hogaye hai mamu

  • All this is simple marketing techniques…….as they say, no publicity is bad publicity…….so, all this articles etc., are just a strategy to market……to keep the interest in the film.

There is nothing OMG in that trailer……nothing extraordinary……nothing that want you to say “awesome, crap”, or “hey, did you see that trailer….wow!!”……nothing.

It was an average trailer, where as usual, Ranveer Singh does a good job…….the girl doesn’t look the part that she is trying to portray…….but, somehow the so called “trade” is suddenly upset, as if they run the industry or the country…..and start making silly judgements……then the so called “save-the-culture” guys and girls……who have no damn clue about what culture really is…….and media who pounce upon like vultures on anything and everything that will get them visitors to visit their pages/articles.

The benefactory of all this are the “makers” of the this movie……and by the looks of it….and the recent form of the lead guy in this movie……it seems the monetary benefits is certainly going to be high at the end of it all.

  • I like it :) RANVEER <3 he is so cute funny and hot in the trailer . Will watch it only for him )) ( terrific actor) . He just needed to play such a role after Bajirao ( warrior) and before Allauddin ( he will play negative role in his next – it's Slb's movies along wit Shahid and Deepika ) .

  • Ranveers most fav movies :
    1 lootera
    2. Bajirao mastani
    3. Band Baaja baraat
    4. Ram leela
    5. Befikre ( I feel it it will be good so much fun)
    6. Dil Dhadakne do
Thanks God his next two roles are fully ENTERTAINING:
    1. Sanjay leela bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati
    2. Zoya Akhtar’s gully boy ( tribute to real life rappers from MUMBAI – naezy , Divane etc)

  • The problem with the trailer of adhm and now with befikre is the lead actresses. ..people are not accepting aish as a seductress and vani kapoor looking like she male. ….so if both the movies fails the credit should go to lead actresses more than anything else. ……

…..hit like if u guys are agree with my observations. …

  • It might do around 70-85 cr.

A sad year for youngistaan, none of them could cross 100 cr. They were amazing during 2014-15.
