Bang Bang Review

In terms of sheer scale and budget, Bang Bang is the biggest release of 2014. The Hrithik Roshan – Katrina Kaif starrer has been in news right from the day it went on floors and the craze for the film peaked with the release of its theatrical teaser. Directed by Siddarth Anand, Bang Bang promises to entertain the audience with action sequences that have never been witnessed in a Bollywood film before. Does the film deliver on its promises? Let’s find out.

Story: Bang Bang begins with the killing of Viren Nanda (Jimmy Shergill). Cut to the next scene, we have the beautiful and single Harleen Sahni (Katrina Kaif) bathing, while her grandmother talks about the stolen Kohinoor diamond. Meanwhile, desperate to find a date, Harleen logs on to Truluvv.com and registers for a date with an unknown person. She bumps into Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan), who she mistakes to be her date. Bowled over by her beauty, Rajveer charms Harleen and the two fall in love. Or do they? What is their true identity? Watch the movie to find out.

Review: Director Siddharth Anand had everything at his disposal to make a good entertaining film - two of the most popular actors in the country, a humongous budget, a Hollywood action director who has worked on films like ‘The Amazing Spiderman 2’ and also a scriptwriter who last scripted ‘Kahaani’ in Sujoy Ghosh. Unfortunately, the film lacks in two major departments – story and direction. By the end of its 156 minute runtime, the only saving grace for Bang Bang are the action sequences and the charisma, style and dancing skills of Hrithik Roshan.

The first half, which is meant to build the suspense around the character of Rajveer is stretched too long and the director seems to be as clueless as the audience at intermission time. The background score is loud, the action sequences – although brilliantly designed and performed - are way too long and the leading lady of the film only makes things worse.

Things improve in the second half, a few dialogues and action scenes do keep the interest level going and the film does end well. Music is good, but even though the film has just 4 songs, it feels like one too many. The second song in the first half, Uff, seemed out of place and unnecessary. Meherbaan and the title song (closing credits, don’t miss it) are the best songs in the film.

Hrithik Roshan is the heart and soul of Bang Bang, he looks terrific is every scene, acts brilliantly and has the charisma and style to pull off a difficult role. He keeps up his energy level up throughout and gives the film his all. Full marks on commitment and dedication. Sadly, he is let down by his director. Katrina Kaif can’t act. She tries too hard, both to look cute and act. She gets the former right, which explains why she has been successful all these years. This might sound a little too harsh, but the moment she opens her mouth to deliver a dialogue, it makes you cringe. Sorry Kat, you are the hottest leading lady in the industry today, but acting is something that doesn’t come naturally to you. Danny Denzongpa and Javed Jaffrey are wasted. Bang Bang is Hrithik’s show all the way, the rest have very little to do.

Overall, weak direction and screenplay let the film down. The first half is poor, the second half is better. Having said that, Hrithik alone is worth the price of your ticket. He is that good. Two and a half stars for Bang Bang, with the amount of money spent, it should have been so much better than it was!

Reasons to watch the film

  • HRITHIK ROSHAN – he’s outstanding.
  • Action sequences
  • Climax and title song during the close credits

Reasons to give the film a miss

  • Weak directing – huge letdown
  • Poor first half
  • Film put together to showcase action, completely lacking in the story department

Rating: ★★½☆☆

At the box office, the opening is earth-shattering all over. The film will have a good extended weekend at the box office, but the big question is, will it cross the 200 crore mark which it was expected to?

  • Film: Bang Bang
Cast: Hrithiik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Pawan Malhotra, Danny Denzongpa, Jaaved Jaffrey
    Director: Siddharth Anand
    Rating: 1.5/5

A classy gangster is a Hollywood invention – Orson Welles.
It’s just that the classy criminal is too conscious of his class in Bollywood.

    Bang Bang
There’re spoilers ahead, so you’re requested to come back to this article after watching the film.

You notice Jimmy Shergill in the opening sequence and you understand in a flash that he is soon going to disappear. Reason for it is very simple. Somebody has to pave the way for the hugely publicised action hero. And, then he arrives, only to not leave the frame for even 10% of the entire film. You get my point? It’s predictable.

Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan) is a stylish thief with amazing abilities, one of them is his talent of crossing a lake in just one breath. He takes up the challenge thrown at the world, preferably Indians, by an international terrorist Omar Zafar (Danny).

This means he has to steal the dazzling Kohinoor from a London museum. He duly does that but somehow decides to not give it to Zafar. It starts a cat-and-mouse game between the two. Who’ll win the chase forms the rest of the story.

Movie Review: Bang Bang is a mindless remake

But, what is Katrina Kaif doing in this plot? Come on, it’s a Hindi film and the nation wants to see a glamorous heroine dance at exotic locations. At least, this is what the director thinks.

There can be only two thought processes as far as the director Siddharth Anand is concerned. Either he believes that huge promotional drive will sell his half-baked product or the audience is actually full of people who believe Knight And Day is a good film. In both the cases, you’re left with no choice other than bearing a mindless script for more than 155 minutes.

It is dangerous when an actor gets too conscious of stardom; this makes the person believe he or she is more saleable than the concept. It is actually difficult to believe that this is the same Hrithik Roshan who looked earnest in films such as Lakshya and Koi Mil Gaya.

Anyway, market pressure can do that, but what is unacceptable is his understanding of a story which was not there in the first place. Even if it was there, it needed careful detailing. Oh, I forgot, you are remaking Knight And Day!

  • wow wow wow!!! you have rated the movie below the most low-rated movie in imdb `Gunday’… :p :p :D RIP all reviews… everything seems fishy here.. Bang Bang’s imdb rating started 3 days before release and haider’s not started yet.. every site where bang bang has been thrashed critics were thrashed in comment section.. i know haider is an excellent movie but movies like this tend to get good reviews.. critics in India are useless.. even a low-rated imdb movie like gunday (1.3/10) has got an overall score of 58/100 from all reviews (check gunday’s critic reviews in indicine) :p :p period.. bwahahaha.. if you want to check reviews.. follow imdb- the best and the most followed portal for ratings.. imdb reviews are generally done by audiences and some certified critics that’s what makes it more favourable! hope you all enjoy the movies and weekend!

  • @Anand still laughing at your review..kya faadi review Tha woh..best part was the shivering scenes.. Genius ho yaar aap toh..
@Navin Bhai..you are next..waiting badly to read your review..?

  • Well just came after watching……would have to admit it is strictly for Hrithik fans he gives the role his all but the poor script doesn’t give him much of chance to act. Best scenes for me were the one having Hrithik-Katrina romance……. Chemistry is biggest plus point also I shud mention the beautifull kiss hrithik teaches her. First time someone kisses Katrina so passionately (srk, aamir ruined their chances) Hrithik grabs it with both hand. Srry Danny sir but you looked more of B-grade villian. Only saving grace is Hrithik, overacts ocassionaly but blame goes to director and script. Katrina is decent (her dadi looks like came just from sets of vicky donor nothing new). Even action scenes dont leave an impact. Overall big dissapointment but I still hope it gets the hit tag only for Hrithik who is very sincere to this non-sense film.

  • I watched it today.. first day and first show.. it’s an ENTERTAINING film!! guys.. am tired with the review of Indicine team.. ppl don’t listen.. just go and enjoy this film..it’s something similar to Dhoom 2, the cinematography, production (direction) which Indicine team said it’s poor!!!!! funny scenes and dialogue, songs not bad, goes with the theme of the film, Katrina is gorgeous in her look.. what ELSE do we want from any film?!! to have a good time.. yes.. there’re scenes which is not convincing but we find them in all action, adventurer films! in short: it’s a film which should not be missed.. must watch it.

  • Well I watched the movie today and I found it above average. Weak script and weak direction are huge let down. Hrithik did his best. Kat looks hot and beautiful through out.
Nice songs, beautiful locations and high octane action sequences are enough for a viewer to enjoy this 2:30 hour movie.

For me it is a good one time watch. I will give it 3/5.

  • @Anand still laughing at your review..kya faadu review tha woh..best part was the shivering scenes and the jibe at @nipun.. Genius ho yaar aap toh.. @Navin Bhai..you are next..waiting badly to read your review

  • so now its clear bang bang will just edge past kick and collect in the range of 25to 27cr so yes considering its huge release this is very bad collection and now movie will slow down from here totally as wom is average to negative.

  • watched yesterday… movie was superb boardflying sequence was outstanding i think india must go and watch it…

  • @BK Thullu, don’t you see I gave 4 Stars to Bang Bang for the film? Other three stars are extra from my side….What else can I do? Achchayi Kare Bhi Toh Problems, Nahin Kare Bhi Toh Problems!

@Sid_Original, thank you yaar. I am pleased even if my review can entertain even few people.
I think @Navin is waiting for Nipun’s review. His main task is to review the review of Bang Bang by Nipun Kumar…

@Navin, how can I avoid giving the review of the antique Washing Machine in which 6 Losers are Stuck…It will be more entertaining but without taking dig at personalities like manoj Kumar.

  • @anand babu

    Lol

Love the review immensely and as I said to @sid original I bow down to your supremely talented critical prowess and masterful wizardry… You have a way with words and wit- humour at its best- too much fun…!

My review will be a review of this sites self proclaiming resident agony aunt n most honest manipulator sorry non hypocritical critiK- Nipun Kumar…. The kid is dragging his herls in the sand but once his review arrives then bullets will fly- lyrical bullets I mean…!

  • With great expectations went to watch the movie yesterday night and to my disappointment int eh first half, found very difficult to ensure that I don’t end up walking half way through the film. Perhaps I felt more in that way as it was a night show…..

Second half was much better and need to agree that the action scenes were breathtaking but at the same time, it leaves no impact at the end as the villain characterization was done poorly. It just leaves the impression that a mountain is made out of a molehill….

From collection perspective, think it will still do well with long weekend ahead and get tagged as hit/super-hit. Maybe ends like Don 2

  • The best part about d film is Katrina ‘s bikini. Except dance n body hrithik is over rated. There ‘s a bit comedy in d film wich hrithik can’t do. Poor acting by both actors. Over d top scenes. Srk Salman Akshay r far better actors than hrithik

My sincere request to haters don’t spread negativity without watching flick…Go first get ur ticket

  • Some of the scenes are the same in other movies a great disappointment must say the beach scene with Katrina is a copycat of her scene with Salman Khan in Maine Pyar.. look closely and you will see what I am saying plus her expressions and dance movements are all the same. My prayer is that she never does another movie with Salman. I did not like bang bang at all a waste of my time and money. Haider is the better movie

  • thank heavens ..youve got it right this time ..its a bad film.. an action fulm that also copied from a hollywood movie looks jaded in front of tom cruise venture

here the fights go on and on..parkour at its worst..impossible stunts and songs are very disruptive and poor also

katrina looks dumb and her grandmother overacts and cant get the same donor act
