  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan Review – It’s Salman Khan’s massy Munna Bhai!

Watching Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan reminded me of the Munna Bhai films, especially Lage Raho Munna Bhai. A larger than life narrative, an utopia like treatment, a goofy righteous protagonist , and a need of the hour message. It’s all there. We see shades of Munna Bhai in Pawan Kumar, the protagonist, who’s on a mission to dispatch Munni (an estranged 6 year old) to Pakistan.

The outline of the plot seems both clichéd and overtly melodramatic. To be honest, it really is, but the treatment which Kabir Khan gives this film takes it to an altogether different level. The first half of the film is sluggish, mainly due to the forced love story of Pawan and Rasika (Kareena Kapoor in a guest appearance here, like most of her films) However, there are some enjoyable moments in the middle, particularly the initial interaction between Munni and Pawan (Salman Khan shows what good an actor he can be, when he’s working with an intelligent filmmaker)

There are many scenes which stand out in the first half. The entire sequence of Pawan discovering that Munni is a Pakistani, is both laugh-out-loud funny and thought provoking. I loved the scene where Pawan hesitates walking into a Masjid and is confused whether or not to help the girl because she’s a Muslim. It’s a poignant scene because the director and the scriptwriter invest so much into the character that for a moment we forget that the protagonist of the film, Salman Khan is a Muslim!

And that is the true strength of Bajrangi Bhaijaan. It is easily one of the most disarming films of the year. We know a lot of the film, especially the climax, is far-fetched and it is too good to be true, but we are totally under the spell of Munni and Pawan to think about logic.

Performance wise, this film rests entirely on the powerful shoulders (no puns there) of Salman Khan, who lifts the film with his effortlessly sincere performance. Nawaz Siddique’s entry in the second half works astoundingly well as he helps the director pull off underwritten scenes purely on his acting prowess. Harishita Malhotra as Munni/Shahida is cute and innocent symbolizing the ‘muted’ relationship between Indians and Pakistanis.

Ultimately it is the heart which matters here and the director makes sure you leave the theatre with a really heavy heart. The climax sequence where Salman turns around and sees Munni shouting his name had the audience hooting and clapping in the theatre. If a film can do that, what more do you want?

Rating: 7.5/10 (Easily the best film of Salman Khan till date. Don’t miss it! It’s more than worth the price of the ticket!)

  • LOL at this loser @Ishan Gulati.. He thinks of himself as an Aamir Khan fan.. but in reality is nothing more than a SRK hater.. day starts with waiting for Bajrangi to beat Happy New Year / Chennai Express and ends worrying if Bhansali will avert clash.

All these people like Gulati and Navin hate SRK more than they love Aamir / Salman.. haha.. That’s why SRK rules.. you can love him or hate him.. but he rules your mind and heart

  • @ Ishan :
Try to praise your friend Salman , instead you’re busy abusing your enemy !
    Symptoms of SRKphobia !!!

  • BB will crush pk if it failed short like ett failed to beat 3I than Dilwale will crush it like CE crushed 3I

  • So what? all thanks to Nawaz and haarshaali.. even i would die of shame if a 6 years old girl like harshaali would have overshadowed my ideal like she overshadowed Bhojpuri Bhaijaan in ‘Nawazuddin Bhaijaan’.. i would die even if Nawaz would have overshadowed my ideal back to back twice like he has overshadowed Bhojpuri Bhaijaan in Kick and ‘nawazuddin Bhaijaan’.. no one even talk about Bhojpuri Bhaijaan bec all know the credit goes to that lil girl and nawaz for their performance not to the worst actor of India Motu bec he did the same chutiyapa like he is doing since his first movie.. even signing nawaz back to back couldn’t help him to break SRK’s movies opening records , 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd, weekend, fastest 100cr record many more and the only thing he got is being overshadowed by a 6 years old lil girl harshaali, haha, shame on worst actor of India Motu…

  • @kiran thorat, that shows the stupidity of srk fans, they don’t read articles but still post comments

@arjunkapoorfan, are you stupid or what? Abcd 2 is the 6th highest grosser overseas according to your own comment and you’re calling it 4th! It looks like you watched mindless arjun and ranveer movies too many times.

  • Amazing !!!!! Haters ki bolti band !!!!!

Some of the predictions by Salman haters before BB release:

@javeed : BB will be flop max 170-180 crs.
BB earns 182 crs just in week 1. Now @javeed is keep changing his prediction. From 210 to 230 may go up after week 2 performance !!!!!!!!!!!

@Babaji : What is the need of Salman doing this movie just hand over the little girl to Pakistan embassy n movie finishes there. So called intellectual @Babaji is praising BB now. The fitting reply to him Salman takes the girl to Pak Embassy as soon as he come to know about her nationality but things always don’t work as expected.

@sss : Disaster, Jai Ho 2. Fitting sl@p on him. BB passes Jai Ho in 4 days n a Blockbuster within a week. All set for ATBB (as per budget n distributor share) !!!!!!!!!!!!!

@I am an idiot : Masala crap n no one will be interested in it. If BB is masala genre then every Srk movie is Masala crap. Even Salman haters calls it as best performance. BB is not a typical Bhai movie n a new Salman emerges !!!!!!!

@nipun : Not sure about BB success only Nawazuddin can make it watchable. Even Salman hard core Kritiks (written intentionally) praises Salman performance. About Nawazuddin, keep wondering why GOW & Badlapur as huge as Kick & BB. BB may not be a technically Master Piece but its humanly a Master Piece Mr. Nipun !!!!!!!!!!!

@ King Aamir fan : BB will another crap n bad movie like other Salman movies.
‘I wish BB breaks PK’s records’ — Aamir Khan. What more do you need. Now prove your idol as liar or dhongi or accept the reality !!!!!!!!!

BB has given fitting answers to its own n Salman detractors !!!!! Hail BB and Hail Salman Khan !!!!!!!!!!
