S.S. Rajamouli’s Bahubali 2: The Conclusion has taken a historic opening at the box office. The occupancy is record-breaking across the board – north, east and west have all taken the best opening of the year – surpassing the opening of all Hindi films so far this year and competing with festive releases like Sultan, Dangal and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
In the south, ‘Baahubali 2’ is recording close to 100% occupancy. The opening record of top Kannada film, ‘Hebulli’, featuring Karnataka’s top superstar, has been eclipsed by a distance in the morning. The all-time highest Kannada grosser, Kirik Party, will be surpassed in a matter of days as both regional and Hindi version have taken a earth-shattering opening.
In fact, several ‘preview’ shows of Bahubali 2: The Conclusion were held late last night in the South and almost all shows were filled to capacity.
Business in Tamilnadu was affected in the morning, as shows were cancelled at the last minute due to some financial settlement issue between the distributor and producers of the film. The issue is said to have been sorted out and shows are now running 12PM onwards. The advance is spectacular here and with the morning shows getting cancelled, the noon/evening/night shows will be packed to capacity.
Inspite of the fact that today is a working day, the people of Baahubali’s home state Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are celebrating it like a festival. Several offices are closed, with reports coming in that corporates have bulk-booked tickets for Friday. As expected, the occupancy has exceeded the capacity. Extra chairs are being added at single-screens, tickets in black are getting a huge premium.
In short, the country has probably never ever seen the kind of craze a film like ‘Bahubali 2’ has managed to generate. It isn’t quite like the hero worship of a Rajnikanth in Tamilnadu.. that level of insanity isn’t there, but the film itself is the superstar here.
When it comes to recovery, Bahubali 2 has been sold for record prices all across. The pre-release theatrical recovery (not including the various rights like satellite, music, digital etc), is 275-280 crore from Hindi and other regional versions. What that also means is, the film has to collect more than the lifetime business of the first film – just to attain ‘HIT’ status. The Hindi version will be a ‘HIT’ once the film crosses the 150-160 crore mark – which is around 30% more than the Hindi collections of the first film.
Bahubali 2 And Robot 2.0 will remain the top openers and highest collections for so many coming years…
The festival made stars are nothing in front of it…

The bahubali 2 was very excited to come out of prabhas fans but the budget is high movie also high but there is no craze like kaidhi no 150 and kabali
It will be the first dubbed movie to cross 200 cr barrier in bollywood and will leave many stars behind from bollywood like akshay kumar and other big actors who failed ro achieve this mark from 2016 onwards like SRK and Hrithik Roshan.

And there we have a film coming from regional industry that might cross 100 cr on first day itself in all its versions… Bollywood needs to stop relying on stars and start relying on content !

@riju who will take the risk, Bollywood are busy for making films based on novel,biopic and previous success formulas. Our top stars is so much obsessed with holiday release and here is a movie who taken Box office by storm. Yes we can’t compare every film with bajubali but when our films taking this kind of opening on non-holiday. Last film was D3 that also was a sequal. Bahubali is definitely a step ahead cinema in India, that’s why we love this so much.
It should have been released at eid or diwali there would be a little effect in collection due to ipl and non holiday …..but it will still break many records

One or two films like Bahubali or Robot doesn’t mean the entire south industry is way ahead of Bollywood. 90% of the big films on south are the same Rowdy Rathore, Wanted and Action Jackson type films. Anti-gravity, a dumb heroine, one item song, etc etc etc. Rajamouli, Shankar and AR Murgadoss are just a part of the Telugu-Tamil industries. They are not the entire south industry.
Isn’t Bollywood making films like Bajirao Mastani, Krrish 3, etc. Does south make films like Neerja, Airlift, etc.
Bollywood has a couple of visionary directors like Raju Hirani, Kabir Khan, Neeraj Pandey, Rakesh Roshan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Soojit Sircar always trying something new. And a few masala filmmakers like Rohit Shetty, Farah Khan and David Dhawan(the masses always love their films).
But in south each and every director wants to make the same masala non-brainer.
Actors like Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar are experimenting according to the audience taste. Shahrukh too trying films like FAN, Dwarf movie. Ajay made an ambitious film like Shivaay. That’s Bollywood heroes.
Whereas in south, each and every actor wants to do the same no-brainer. A big star does a unique film only with a big director like AR Murgadoss. There might be many small directors in south too wanting to make something new, but the big stars may not be willing to work with them. In Bollywood, small directors like Nitesh Tiwari, Raja Krishna Menon getting chance with big stars.
Even south has nepotism dude. In Telugu, all from major stars like Pawan Kalyan, Jr. NTR, Mahesh Babu, Prabhas, Alku Arjun, Ram Charan to a rising star like Rana Daggubati. Almost everyone comes from a big family.

Bahubali has far more craze and light years better movie than that Chiranjeevi’s over-acting ki dukaan Khaidi No. 150.
Finished watching and I can say only one thing. Bahubali was the film I regret not watching in theatre and this is I regret watching. Nothing special even CGI is not up to the expectations. Bahubali was 4 times better.
there is one dubbed film which is challenging opening records of national holiday on april without any superstar and there is one so called superstar who can’t even beat opening day records on national holiday of eid( eid 2013, we all remember that film).
by the way last year that certain superstar’s film in that same month of april failed to cross even 20 crore net on opening day that too on a partial holiday and this film without any superstar in that same month is having advance booking of 30 crore net.
from here we should not call anybody a superstar.
