‘Bahubali 2’ has become the first film in Hindi to cross the 400 crore mark at the box office. The film has achieved this record inspite of the fact that the business of the Hindi version was affected by the main Telugu version and other regional versions in circuits like Andhra/Nizam, Tamilnadu / Kerala and Mysore.
On its 15th day (3rd Friday), the S.S. Rajamouli directed magnum-opus has collected twice more than the combined collections of the two news films – Sarkar 3 and Meri Pyaari Bindu. It has to be noted here that Sarkar, which wasn’t carrying any pre-release interest, has collected less than what the first Sarkar film did 12 years ago.
The ‘Bahubali 2’ juggernaut is unlikely to stop anytime soon. It will affect the business of next week’s release ‘Half Girlfriend’ and now targets the 500 crore mark. The collections at the end of the third weekend will be around the 430 crore mark and the film should cross 450 crore in 3 weeks.
We are talking about numbers that have crossed the level of insanity in the last few weeks. Never has the audience come in such big numbers for any film in the last two decades and it’s a ‘dubbed’ Telugu film that has shattered all box office myths – including the belief that it was the festive holiday weekends that were bringing the audience to theatres.
