Badrinath Ki Dulhania emerges a winner

Dharma Productions’ Badrinath Ki Dulhania is well on course to be a big winner at the box office. The film has collected Rs 27 crore in 2 days and looking at the jump in occupancy in the morning, the Varun-Alia starrer should end its first weekend with net box office collections of 43-44 crore.

The trend over the weekend suggests the film is finding appreciation and even centres that did not take a good initial on Friday, showed growth on Saturday. Multiplexes at metro cities were packed on Saturday night and that should be the case today too because tomorrow is a holiday for Holi.

The other positive for Badrinath Ki Dulhania is the lack of competition in the next few weeks. Machine is not carrying any pre-release buzz, Phillauri appeals to a different section of the audience so the impact should be minimal. Even Naam Shabana isn’t a big film either, so Badrinath Ki Dulhania could have a open run until the release of Sarkar 3 in the first week of April.

Cost-wise, the film is safe already and should recover almost all of its investment by the time the holi festivities end.
