Baby First Day Box Office Collection: Early Estimate

Baby has collected around Rs 8 – 8.5 crore on its opening day at the India box office, as per early estimates based on collections from a few centres. The film has done well at major cities, but business at other places was below-the-mark throughout the day.

The opening in the morning was decent, a few centres up in the North opened at 35-45%, which was a good start for a film like Baby. Evening shows did show reasonably good growth too, but business was limited to multiplexes in cities. While Delhi/UP did fairly well, thanks to the strong opening in the National Capital Region, at mass centres the occupancy was poor.

Mysore and West Bengal circuit were below average on Day 1, while central India was poor too.

Baby would have to show tremendous growth in business over the next 3 days to have any chance at the box office. The costs are on the higher side and the film has to gross much more than most Akshay Kumar films in recent times.

If the final collections do come around the Rs 8 – 8.5 crore range, it will also be our third consecutive accurate prediction in 2015 after Tevar and Alone. Read the #IndicineFBO article for more.

Note: The first day collections of Rs 8 – 8.5 crore are early estimates only. Actual figures will be published in the morning.

    • @thullu just like I had supported ur akkis holiday I would do the same for baby and it will dfntly cross holiday lifetime but one has to admit thar if akki hadn’t done some crap films for money then not only his success rate would hv een benefited but his hits would hv been much bigger blockbuster.films like holiday,s26,patiala house and baby deserved to b superhit/blockbuster ended up being flops(patiala house) or just hits.

but I think baby could still emerge a superhit but it will dfntly b a hit.hope it shows huge jump

  • Hearing good reviews about this Neeraj Pandey’s movie. Neeraj is one of the better directors of Bollywood.
Now waiting for his next MSD with Sushant.

  • Baby will show tremendous growth in late night shows just like Singham Returns did and the final collections will be between 10-11 cr.

  • Baby Review: A predictable story with lots of thrills and solid performances.

To be honest, over expectations killed a lot of joy for me. Baby was getting extra-ordinary reviews from all critics and I went into the theater expecting a mind-blowing film. It’s a really good film, but Neeraj Pandey, who had mastered the art of conning his audience with unexpected twists plays it rather predictably this time.

So what is Baby? Baby is a 5-year trial program where undercover agents are trained to fight terrorism freely with a clause that Indian Government would never claim their identity as an Indian in worst case scenario. We have interesting actors like Danny, Neeraj regular – Anupam Kher, Rana and the terrific Tapsee to support Akshay in their mission.

The first half of the film was a bumpy ride where time was taken to give us all the characters. I got the feeling that Neeraj has lost it completely, but the second half of the film with it’s extremely well edited scenes is so high on thrills, they take your breath away more than twice!

Another impressive thing about Baby is, it more than once turns a cliche on it’s head. So here we don’t have the hero successfully defusing bombs at the last minute nor any overtly sentimental melodrama. What we get is SOLID ENTERTAINMENT!

Akshay plays his part exceptionally well. Easily one of his strongest performance. Danny and Anupam Kher lend good support. Tapsee in a small yet powerful scene leaves a lasting impression. The editing is terrific and the direction is quite good. The screenplay however is strictly above average. A scene where we see no traffic on Marine Drives is absolutely outrageous and annoying.

Neeraj however manages to get the required tension and intensity so well that I’m more than willing to ignore some of it’s flaws. He sets the mood, gives you clap worthy moments, extracts riveting performance from his cast and gives you an entertainer which is incredibly engaging.

Though muddled with logical loopholes, Baby is still a clear winner, thanks to it’s brisk pacing, sharp dialogues and terrific performances. Akshay and Neeraj have done it twice in a row.

Final Words: Go watch it. What are you waiting for?

    Rating: 7.5/10

  • BABAJI’s BABY Review:: Thoroughly Engaging but won’t blow you off!!
**** This Review contains SPOILERS,move ahead at your own risk****
Finally watched my most anticipated film of the year: BABY directed by Neeraj Pandey. And it was my most awaited film for a reason as the same director had given us two exceptional films in A Wednesday and Special 26.Both these films were engaging, thrilling and had a gripping narrative that will hook you through the entire duration. So does BABY succeeds in doing so? Let’s find out!

BABY starts off with a bang with few brilliantly choreographed action scenes and never loses pace throughout the first half or I should say the entire length.Baddies make a menacing introduction through some brilliant dialogues.Akshay’s scenes with Madhurima are well shot and adequately timed, will not make you impatient for the main story.First half has some kickass dialogues but the story wavers and is’nt clear as to what’s going with the intoduction of so many characters. However there are some scenes that standout such as Akshay interrogating Taufeeq,Maulana’s intro.
Second half begins briskly with Tapsee and Akki in nepal,Tapsee shines in her limted role.Definitely one of the best moments of the film. The pace is never down, the thrills are there in almost every single frame.Anupam Kher enters the film in the second half and provides much needed comic relief.Akshay delivers one of his best performances, right from the first scene his absolutely brilliant but what let me down is the climax, though most critics have liked it.It seem rushed and things went too easily their way.If you have watched Argo, you will be left a tad disappointed with the climax. It is weaker in comparison and has every chances to leave you upset. It will be predictable for you.SPOILER***:I could’nt understand why the Saudi Police officer let them fly off when he was shown inspecting so seriously!
Overall a must watch as these kind of films are not made everyday in bollywood,it will keep you engaged and hooked at the edge of your seat throughout but a better climax would have made it a great film.Sometimes keeping too high expectations results in you leaving a bit disappointed something that happened with indicine at the time of PK.Definitely it is’nt Neeraj’s best work.I will rate it less than A wednesday and Special 26.

    I am going with 3.50/5

    POSITIVES:
Akshay is fantastic throughout.one of his best performances.
Great support cast in Danny,Tapsee,Anupam and Rana.
    Villains does geat job.
Action scenes are realistic, one of the best in a bollywood film.
    Beautiful locales and great cinematography.

    NEGATIVES:
Story is unidirectional and is’nt multilayered.
Climax is a letdown if you have seen Argo.
    No major twists,it’s quite predictable.

    • Nice review! So u and gj have posted ur reviews! Sad that I haven’t watched the movie. Actually I requested my 2-3 friends to go for Baby with me yesterday. But they denied my proposal. But today they went to purchase dresses and watched Baby today widout informing me. Huh! I am suffering from fever. Aachuuun.. I will try to go in this weekend though.

    • @babaji if I’m not wrong .. you seemed to have copied this review from one of the reviews from ‘imdB user reviews’ :) or maybe its just a co-incident that your review is identical to the one we’re talking about :)
      Just Saying !

    • @babaji Yep, went back to the imDb page and read the user reviews again, Kshitij Srivastava’s review it is ?

    • @babaji but in imdb u hv to rate the film ln a scale of 10.so how much did u give it out of 10?7.5 or 8?

  • I’m disappointed and very sad. I wish pick up night show. Last time Akki movie release in Myanmar but now not release, what problem i also don’t know. I very excited to watch Baby movie.

  • Still wondering how people went to watch a film like Entertainment that did’nt looked good right from the promos but did’nt turn up to watch baby…

    • Its proved again that twitter trend don’t decide the major perspective of any film buzz, craze etc.Its the genre which decide, don’t surprise if Main Gabbar will open with 10cr + easily without any trending on social media.

    • Entertainment was a family film with no sex scene or reference to sex(PK Dancing Car or Condom) and the jokes were also not crude so people went for it and got what they wanted. People already knew from the trailer that there would be bloody action so children and faint-hearted Akki fans stayed away from the film. Kids loved the simple story of Entertainment so they watched it multiple times. People expected Baby to be humongous but it turned out to be a 3/5 instead of a 4.5/5 or even a 5/5(By the looks of your and some other reviews). I still haven’t watched it as it has not released in my country due to lack of Cinemas.I will get a DVD by the end of the month or watch it somewhere online as I’m super excited. Entertainment was not a bad film but it was just directed badly as not everyone can become a director. It had some really funny scenes but the execution of the trailer was worst than the whole movie. I would rate it a 3.5/5 on Comedy Standards(Same rating for PK as it had useless MeloDrama and I already knew the alien thing from 1.5 years ago)
I am an Akki and Ranbir Kapoor fan(Both are fantastic actors but RK still has somethings to learn like action while Akki is the most seasoned and versatile actor in Bollywood)and I have watched all their recent movies.

  • The lifetime collections would depend on the coming days.If it shows great growth(Which is quite certain) it will easily cross 100 crores

  • despite a multiplex oriented film it should be openened 12 cr plus.I think akki has lost his superstardom. He is no more a superstar.in mass area even tevar opened better than baby.according to boi first day is 7.5 crore. Very sad …as a akki fan i am totally disappointed.

  • Akshay ki movie ko kya hogaya hai 10 cr ke niche ki opening, aaj kal toh nay actor isse zyada ki opening dete hai :)

  • It should do 100 cr !!
    Engaging story
    superb locations
    fantastic & Realistic Action sequences
    Akshay in full form

    Overall a tight Picture
    Only The Climax disappointing !
was expecting sum action nd twists in the end bt it didn’t happen in the climax !!

  • Just came back seeing ‘Baby’. One of the most anticipated films of this year.

Akshay and Neeraj come back and in what way! A very good start to this year, indeed.

As reports pouring in, and people reading tones of reviews, I would not emphasize much on the story line and the screenplay.

The film starts on a high note with lots of characters being established initially in the first half. The first half moves briskly and it is just about an hour and you see an ‘Interval, in the midst!
The second half begins, again brilliantly with the team moving to Nepal for an operation. Watch out for Taapsee in this initial segment – ‘Best scene of the film’! And then it tells about how this team catches Maulana and the further impacts is what the second half tells about.

As everybody had been praising about Baby’s climax, TBH , I was a little disappointed by it since it had striking similarities with Argo and ofcourse our very own D-DAY! But, still the movie doesn’t make you lose heart but it still entertains in whatever way it could. A little more importance to the screenplay would have done wonders. Anyhow, Baby is a brilliant attempt in an otherwise whimsical attempts that Bollywood keeps on churning these days!

Could have been Neeraj Pandey;s best film till date but it somewhere lagged behind Special 26 and A Wednesday in my opinion.

    Pros:
    1. Akshay’s riveting performance – Subtle and absolute gem he was. (I hope, he does more films like these)
    2. Brilliant casting with superb performances from everyone.
    3. No attention to any love angle or songs.
    4. Cinematography – Astounding.
    5. Fast paced narrative.
    Cons:
    1. Comparing to his earlier films, a little shallow.
    2. Climax could have been better.
    3. Too much reliance on Akshay (Not bad, but still, I felt Kay Kay Menon had very little to do)

Finally, Baby is a must watch film, since it’s pretty rare that Bollywood makes such kind of Spy/Espionage Thrillers. Akshay in his lifetime act along with a top notch supporting cast. It has its share of flaws, but it is definitely worth giving your time. Such films need to be encouraged!

Rating: 4/5. A great watch, with its flaws!

  • Baby movie is awesome especially the last 45 min. Actually wanna tell you that it is not saudi but it’s Abu Dhabi UAE where I live.. amazing scenes from Abu Dhabi…their police investigating officer who really caught akshay and the gang but let them fly to India as they were taking back a terrorist…

  • Babaji is stop spreading negativity thr best thing about the film is it’s climax even indicine its one of best in recent times.

  • Well, you can’t get a humogonous opening for a movie titled as “Baby”. But its getting loved by everyone. It deserves to collect 130 crores. If this movie doesn’t collect 100 crs then God help bollywood.

  • the same guy who acts in film like entertainment and holiday stars in thus film..!!! how can it be likeable??

now at last akshay kumar will come to know his fate in this industry..

he is not a saleable star anymore..

our makers must see films like john wick and the equalizer then dare to make action films..

american sniper would be a good example to follow..!!

    • ROFL..Megha aunty likes even shit hollywood films like The Equalizer..One of the most pathetic film I have watched in recent times..I dare to say Singham was better than it..

  • Beechara akshay? Who was saying Akshay should learn from Don Rukh Khan?? Haha let him learn from d following people before learning from Don khan
Tum log ka khiladi kumar last 3 movies following
Holiday 11.48 crores + Its entertainment 10 crores + baby bacha 7.5 all based on box office d actual truth house = 28.8 crores?!!!
Bang Bang 28.5 crores = Akshay last 3 films 28.8
    Singham returns 32.4 crores > 28.8
    ETT 32.86 crores > 28.8
    Dhoom 3 36 crores > 28.8
King New year 44 crores > 28.8 crores!
Are Are let’s add akshay highest rowdy rathod 15crores + 28.8 = 43..8 crores against 44 crores king new year
    Akki last 3 + highest ever (43.8) < 44 crores!!!!
So let khiladi flop Kumar first learn from Hritik Ajay Salman Aamir and then KING KHAN??? that's what u call asli star power!!! Ha ha too much fun!!!
