All Is Well Movie Review

Abhishek Bachchan hasn’t had the best of careers in Bollywood and that can be said without any argument whatsoever. But things have started looking up for him ever since his Nandu Bhide act in Happy New Year was loved by everyone, and he has some big projects like Hera Pheri 3 and Housefull 3 lined up for release. In All Is Well, he has joined hands with Umesh Shukla who gave us a ground shifting hit in the form of OMG Oh My God. So even though the trailers have been lukewarm, there is an eagerness in the audience to see what All Is Well is all about. Does it hit the bulls eye? Let’s find out.

Story: Inder Bhalla (Abhishek) has seen his parents (Rishi Kapoor and Supriya Pathak Kapur) biker amongst themselves throughout his life. One day, Inder gets into a big entanglement with his father and leaves for Bangkok to become a musician and doesn’t return for the next 10 years. Back home in Kasol, his father has picked up loans of about 20 lakh rupees and is being coaxed by the local goon Cheema (Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub) to sell his bakery and the house to balance out the loan. Inder lands up in Kasol and then begins a cat and mouse game between the Bhallas and Cheema’s group. Even the police somehow get involved in all this. And oh not to forget there’s Nimmi (Asin) who accompanies the Bhallas in the journey.

Screenplay and Direction: Umesh Shukla who gave us the thoroughly entertaining OMG disappoints big time with All is Well. His sophomore effort is too disjointed and too out of touch with reality. It could have worked if the film was billed as an out and out crazy comedy but it was billed as a comic drama instead. There’s a major continuity issue in the film as the hairstyles of main characters (mostly Abhishek) keeps changing in between scenes! It should have been taken care of by the director. The comedy lines don’t work the way they are meant to work but a few scenes do extract laughs from the audience. It could have become a complete disaster but a few scenes in between saves itself from falling into the “it’s so bad it’s good” category.

All is Well is technically a below average film. The detailing in the film is negligible. They tell us it is the Kasol-Chandigarh highway but they show us a barren stretch of land (probably in Karjat) devoid of any vegetation. The editing is decent but the costume design seemed very old school. All is Well is a T-Series film and hence the music was expected to be amazing but here too, All is Well doesn’t do that well. Only Hafte Mein Chaar Shanivaar works, and Sonakshi’s misplaced item number is drab. The romantic songs are soft on the ears and could be liked with repeat hearings.

Acting: Abhishek Bachchan has been given a lot of scope to show his talent in the film but he still comes up short. It feels like an inhibited act by him, even though he must have given the film his all. His character isn’t the most likeable either and that plays a part into how his acting was interpreted. Rishi Kapoor repeats his Do Dooni Chaar / Besharam act and does very well indeed. Asin doesn’t have a lot to do but it was nice to see her back in a movie after a long time (probably her last film too). Supriya Pathak Kapur doesn’t get more than 10 dialogues to deliver and that’s a shame considering the talent we know she possesses. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub gives it his utmost best in the slapstick role of a slapstick villain. He owns majority of the scenes he is in.

Conclusion: All is Well has big continuity issues, feels poorly put together and neither the comedy nor the drama works too well. It made us feel that the initial script of the film had decent promise but the execution and the shooting delays undid the end product. Still, if you like ‘leave your brains back at home movies’ and just want to laugh at anything and everything, then All Is Well could pass off as a one time watch. But if you value your intelligence and your time, then putting your money into tickets for All Is Well may not be the best investment for you.

  • All is not well for abhishek and his solo film. Only 3 Khans rule bollywood. No one can match there stardom.

  • Music of this film is simply beautiful.. Tu milade is my fav song. Such a beautiful song it is. All songs r rocking.. Himesh is the best. Waiting for prdp album now.

Chalo khan k fans dekha do apni power in B class actors ko

  • Sad for abhi.so he can’t gv solo hits anymore. Guru will probably remain his last solo hit
anyways its nt bad to do acclaimed 2nd lead or supporting roles in big money spinners

    best of luck abhi

  • Another flop for Abhishek. The only way he can save his career is by either working in Multistarrers or with Mani who brings out the best in him

  • Abhishek Bachchan’s comeback will be disastrous…Because he did
wrong to choose right script..A megastar son was expected to take
the film industry by storm..But he failed to fill expectations…
Abhishek,At least make a comeback with some new, something
interesting…But he failed time and time again..

  • Not many people know that Umesh Shukla’s first film was Dhoondte Reh Jaoge – a box office disaster. OMG worked largely because of the excellent performances of Paresh Rawal-Akshay Kumar and the sheer novelty of the film.

But what was he thinking while he was making this film? After working with outstanding actor like Paresh Rawal if you work with non-actor like Abhishek you’re bound to fail!

  • @indicine

Has the ‘humsafar’ song been used in the movie n was it appropriate or wasted…?

I love the new version but was still against the idea of another classic song being horribly misused by todays ‘devoid of any originality’ music composers/ companies…!

  • Now a days reading film reviews has become a fun! Last week I couldn’t stop laughing while reading brothers reviews by Rahul Desai, anu chopra and Raja Sen! Today I laughed reading AIW review by Shubhra Gupta.

  • Some people are already insulting umesh shukla and abhishek bachchan and strangely, they have not yet watched the film. PLZ see the movie before making any comments

  • @nipun… there was a time when your comments were fun.. nowadays its nothing but reviews of other reviewers review.

  • I am happy to the demise of the Abhishek’s career as a solo hero. Dont take me wrong. I dont like him since the days of Refugees!
@nipple, This film will be disaster if its bad and against audiences’ taste. Not because of Critics review. And there is no fun in reading reviews as well.
I only read @Indicine reviews because they analyse and review well although it has some problems with its rating standard.

  • @ don/bhaijaan/pk- i can’t like or dislike your comments because in your options i like Salman, Aamir, Ajay, Akshay and i don’t hate ranbir but i don’t like srk. it is hard to like someone who thinks that he is king.

    Majeev Rasand

    Sutra Gupte all suck!

  • At the time of PK, many were saying PK copied OMG. Omg concept was if you talk bad for God from your heart, god will punish you. It happened twice in OMG with Paresh Rawal. I haven’t read in any mythological book of Hindu religion that God will punish you. If it was truth that Shri Krishna would punish Shakuni & Kauravas even before the battle, as they talk bad for him most of the time. Pk never deal for that.

OMG wasnt a fluke for Umesh Shukla, but the film was lifted from Gujarati play which has done by Paresh Rawal so many times as a theatre artist, so to adopt that movie with original actor is not that tough. But with All is well he completely failed in story and screenplay, acting part come after that. Umesh Disappointed alot. Bad luck for Abhi and Asin.

  • Some songs and lyrics are good and photography of songs is fine, and that is perhaps only good part of this film. However, the movie AIW is just an average flick with loose grip and literally no sensible continuity. Mr. Bacchan Junior turned out to be a mediocre actor to bear during the film. We felt during the show that later half was perhaps somewhat better but people in the hall opined otherwise, & that movie became unbearable to watch. Most of the audience left the cinema during break / intermission and this shows that the film failed to deliver. 2/5

  • All Is Well is obviously built on the myth of Shravan Kumar, celebrated for his devotion to his parents, ends with two weddings, one planned out to the last detail, the other accidental but facilely opportune. For audiences that are disposed towards accepting the kind of climactic twists that All Is Well fabricates – the most ridiculous of which is saved for the very last – the film might pass muster as a one-time watch.
