Akshay Kumar has added yet another feather in what has been a glorious career stretching for over two decades. The superstar has won the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in ‘Rustom’, a commercially successful film which released during the Independence Day weekend last year.
Akshay becomes one of the few mainstream heroes to win the prestigious award. He joins Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan as one of the few major stars to have won the National Award for Best Actor.
Inspite of excellent performances in several films during the last decade, Bollywood awards haven’t really given Akshay his due. He wasn’t even nominated for Rustom or Airlift.
But the actor who turns 50 later this year, enjoying arguably the best phase of his career so far, has finally got his due.

I always thought national awards are given to Indian citizens only but this is news for me.
Akshay Kumar should think again that did he deserve this award.
In 2009 he did not accept the award and said Amir deserved the award for ghajini than him.
Will he do the same this time because yet again Amir is deserving more than him for Dangal.

Rustom was not even well reviewed it .received average reviews from critics even akshays performance was average,it wasn’t a challenging role that required histronics,it was a one time watch movie nothing great,but akshay got it bcoz of his deshbhakti and priyadarshan his favourire director,there were several great performances last year,somehow how the jury felt akshay deserved is dubious ,the national awrds have lost all credibility when saif won for hum tum,srk and aamir won’t win any award bcoz the dont do chamchagiri of any ruling government,and show fake patritism ,i think the love they have from their fans worldwide is their biggest award

Fake awards….how can they give him? there were several better actors in 2016…amir in dangal,SRK in fan, Randeep Hooda in sarabjit,Ranbir in ADHM…. anything is possible when saif was chosen for best actor over SRK in swades/Veer zaara

Although I want award for Aamir khan for Dangal, but its good Akshay get the national award. There is no doubt that in Rustom as a film was pretty mediocre and Akshay performance is good not great, He deserves for Airlift. Nevertheless both released in same year, so its good he won National award.
Proud moments for Akki fans. Chalo Ajay k baad Akshay ko bhi National award mil gaya. But I don’t think Srk and Aamir will ever get those award despite being given great performance in movies like Lagaan, CDI, Swades, Dangal and RDB.

In 2015, Shahrukh Khan got the Most Entertaining Actor award for Happy New Year from a chota-mota Award show, he happily took it. Whereas everyone knows that Boman and Abhishek’s characters were far more entertaining than him in the movie. In the same show, Sonu Sood took the Award for Best Actor in a negative role for Entertainment!!!!!
