Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Box Office Updates
All box office updates of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani will be here.
Thursday – Several preview shows were held across the country and if the response, despite the India Australia cricket match, was anything to go by, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani could be Ranbir Kapoor’s first career HIT – Saawariya flopped, Bachna Ae Haseeno was average, Wake Up Sid did above average business. So clearly Ranbir box office pull is increasing with each film.
Friday – Occupancy in several multiplexes in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi were close to 70% for morning shows, which is fantastic. Initial reports suggest positive reactions from most of those who have already seen the film. The evening and night shows were houseful (100%) in almost all multiplexes in major cities.
Many believe the opening is as good as the top stars in the industry could achieve. If this turns out to be true then weekend collections could be anywhere between 20 – 25 crores. Can Ranbir achieve a 37 – 40 crore opening week, this early in his career? He possibly could, but it remains to be seen how much the crucial India Australia cricket match could affect collections on Sunday, which is a very important day for any new release.
If Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani does well on Sunday, sustains during the weekends, Ranbir would go past Shahid Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan and enter the big league!

Saturday : Not many predicted Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani to open as big as it has over the weekend. The business on Saturday was excellent and should be higher than Friday. Should easily achieve HIT status, unless the cricket match on Sunday severely dents collections.
If Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani goes as expected on Wednesday and Thursday, it would be next only to Love Aaj Kal for the year. With a opening as huge as this, Ranbir Kapoor makes a smashing entry into the Top 5 – 6 stars in Bollywood, quickly going past his generation of stars like Shahid Kapoor, Imraan Khan and also the much older John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan.
Desperately in need of bankable stars, Bollywood looking for the next true blue superstar after Hrithik Roshan, can finally rejoice.

If you’re attempting a rom-com, you need to get a few things right…
One, the romance should be livewire. Ditto for the chemistry between the on-screen pair.
Two, the film should make you laugh. As simple as that!

I’ve often said that comedy is serious business and the audience has moved over from banana peel humour in movies. The comedy in AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI – though it borders on absurdity – is funny in most parts. Sure, there’re times when you feel that the humour looks forced [climax fight especially], but you don’t grudge it since Santoshi’s intentions are crystal clear from Scene 1 onwards: Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega.
Another factor that goes in its favour is Pritam’s music, who belts out a couple of lilting tracks.
On the flip side, the film could’ve done with a fresh plotline. When you talk of ‘Ghazab Kahani’, it has to be ghazab by all means. It shouldn’t fall prey to predictability, but the second hour succumbs to mediocrity occasionally.
Yet, despite the blemishes, AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI is a full-on entertainer. One thing is for sure, you’d fall in prem with Prem and his antics. An ideal date movie that should connect with the youth.
Prem’s [Ranbir Kapoor] fundas in life were very simple – be happy, make others happy. A case of mistaken identity leads Prem to almost kidnap Jenny [Katrina Kaif], who was brought up by indifferent and uncaring foster parents.
Prem falls in love with Jenny, but realizes gradually that Jenny is in love with someone else [Upen Patel], the son of a conniving politician [Govind Namdeo]. Prem decides to sacrifice his love and get the lovers married.
In the first sequence, Santoshi makes it loud and clear that AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI is very unlike his previous ventures; this one harbours on illogical situations. Right from the time Ranbir sets his eyes on Katrina [the yellow outfit episode], the film is a roller coaster ride.
A few sequences entertain you thoroughly. Sample these: Katrina slaps Ranbir when he stammers as well. She feels he’s imitating her; Ranbir’s sequence in the church; Salman Khan’s cameo; the love-hate relationship that Ranbir and his father [Darshan Jariwala] share; the sequence at the party; the interval point when Ranbir falls on the ground literally… the first hour of the film simply rocks!

He has the first hit of his career, but he’s already past Shahid and Abhishek? Wahwah!!! Why not say he’s no#1? He’s past Aamir and Shahrukh too. Everybody stand up and clap, Ranbir has his first and only hit of his career so he is the biggest superstar in Bollywood.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani rocked the nation with around 6.75 crore nett collections on day one. The figures are only behind Love Aaj Kal annd Kambakkht Ishq for 2009. The top ten films ever for first Friday nett collections now are as follows.

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani Opens To Sensational Response

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani opened to a sensational response all over India. The first day recorded collections in the 85-90% region. The reports are mixed but with a huge opening the film will emerge a winner. Multiplexes were huge and even single screens in smaller towns had a good turnout of over 60%.
Jail opened poor at around the 30% mark and will find it difficult to make a mark at the box office. The reports are not good but the film should do better in Mumbai than the rest of the country.
Aladin had a terible response with around 5.50 crore nett in week one. The film will lose over 80% of its investment and is one of the biggest disasters ever. DISASTER
London Dreams had a below par first week with around 23 crore nett. The film had a big Sunday but could not a consolidate in the weekdays. The huge opening for Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani makes it tough for the film in its second week and therefore London Dreams may find it difficult to even reach average status.
All The Best after a rock steady second week fell in its third week with around 4.75 crore nett collection taking its three week total to 41.50 crore nett. ABOVE AVERAGE
Blue fell again heavily as it collected 2 crore nett in week three. The three week total for Blue is 40 crore nett. AVERAGE

i personally didnt like ajab prem ki that much.. its a ok movie… not great….
`ll give it 2 stars.
its a typical akshay type movie.. may be ranbir did it for d 1st time so he was appreciated tat much..
its gettin a mixed response also…
ranbir kat jodi `ll be gud for a romantic movie rather than a full on comedy.
akshay kat jodi s better i guess…
average stuff.

I didnt get ticket for ajab prem ki morning show so went to jail;) but believe me after watchin jail, ajab looks just average…

I knew it,jail is gd movie,just brilliant..I went to watch jail,as I like to some extent madhur’s movie..I also did not get ticket for apkgk…really why this is happening..yaar..just for publicity stunt and star status…

ya Jail shud `ve been postponed to some other day… it s sufferin. wat a superb actin by neil yaar… bcoz of ranbir neil `ll `ve a tuff time…;)
wateva… v r not gonna gain anythin den wy worry…;) dey act n dey mak money.. but v watch n waste our money…;)
bein doctors or engineers v hardly earn lakhs.. but these ppl earn in crores… cha shud `ve taken up actin yaar…;) ha ha

@ Indicine Team. i have to agree wid Shreeta. belivee u me da start APKGK has had has several major reasons.
1. Tips constructed da promo in such a way dat it looks like an extension to AAA (dis film is no where near to AAA)
2. Kat factor- she iz huge down here in UK, especially England coz i live here. my friends who r die hard Hollywood fans just watch her films, dey dont care bout da film who her co stars r etc.
3. Ranbir azwell. WUS has done wonders for him especially multiplex audience. but he haz a long way to go yet.
am not a Shahid fan, but he iz way ahead of Ranbir atm.

i think the movie has bombed already from the way the negative word of mouth santoshi borrows heavily from his last hit right from the name of his hero to getting thrown out of the house ..somewhere he wants to remind us of andaz apna apna by playing its song in the background.. a screeming kaif puts the last nail in the coffin.. its a dastardly sct in comedy and fails miserabily ..success doesnt come easy to those born with asilver spon dearies..today the movie will bite the dust
