Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play Sarabjit Singh’s sister in biopic

It’s raining biopics in Bollywood. The director of ‘Mary Kom biopic’ is all set to direct his next film, which will be based on the life of Sarabjit Singh.

The role of his sister Dalbir Kaur will be played by none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The real-life character was first offered to actresses like Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra, but finally it fell in the hands of Aishwarya.

The actress will have to play the 61-year-old sister of Sarabjit who spent her life in hope of bringing justice to her brother. Sarabjit Singh was captured on the border of Pakistan and was considered as a spy for the Government of India. He was allegedly tortured for 23 years and sentenced to death. Eventually, it was Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who stood by his sister and led a campaign for his release. Unfortunately, Sarabjit was murdered by one of his co-inmates in the prison.

The lives of both Sarabjit and Dalbir are of immense struggle. It remains to be seen if Omung Kumar and Aishwarya are able to do justice to the important story of Sarabjit and his sister.

  • Nothing against the family or legacy but dont know why this film is being made as what happened was a pure tragedy n disgrace not just for Pakistan but India as it seemed very easy to outsiders for the powers to be to simply save this man but they didnt n he was left to rot…! It will be a hard watch for audiences too so hope they handle the whole imprisonment/ interrogation n torture aspects carefully. Good luck to the team but its not one I will plan to watch.

  • it will be a challenging movie for cast and crew and an emotional movie for indians
but I don’t know why omung kumar has received so much acclaim for ruining mary kom biopic
I even wonder how this movie won a national award for best hindi movie before haider and pk

  • Indicine there is another poster of brothers revealed and its looking one of the best poster ever made in bollywood.

  • He was not a good director in Mary Kom and again he is doing a biopic. But he should be careful, as this one is very controversial and might get banned if not made properly. a lawsuit can be filed if, like Navin said, the interrogation/imprisonment scenes are altered in any way. They should also not show Pakistan OR India in a bad way and make it look like a misunderstanding. Since I’m Pakistani I will not watch it and I don’t think it will release in Pakistan as well. Sad, as there are many fans of her here.
P.S. If a spy is ever caught, the government will and does deny his being a spy so there is no way of truly knowing whether he was a real spy or not

  • Had read the interview of Sarabjit’s sister and it was so horrific to read the tragic tale of Sarabjit. Can’t believe how the government couldn’t bring him back despite having suitable evidence.
Hope more biopics are made on lives of such men rather than sportsperson.

  • Why touch sensitive issue when you easily choose something other to direct, even little alteration in story lead to disastrous result for makers.

Off topic but i truly want any director to make a remake of 1997 david fincher cult classic ‘Seven’.

Off topic but i truly want any director to make a remake of 1997 david fincher cult classic ‘Seven’. It is one of the best thriller movies made in hollywood.
