Ajay Devgn’s Action Jackson has collected Rs 9.26 crore on its opening day at the box office. As per estimates, more than 45% of business has come from single-screens. The response at multiplexes throughout the day was poor.
In comparison, Ajay’s last release Singham Returns was way ahead due to the film being a sequel, director Rohit Shetty and holiday for Independence Day. But even if the first day business of Action Jackson is compared to films like Himmatwala (Rs 11 cr) and Satyagraha (11.21 crore), Action Jackson has under-performed on higher number of screens.
Mass centres (where the film did well on Day 1) have dropped on Saturday, and unless multiplexes pick up towards the end of the day, the second day business of Action Jackson will either be lower or around the same level as Friday.
Like Kill Dil, Happy Ending and Ungli, the opening of Action Jackson is way too low for the film to have any chance at the box office. It would have to show growth in the range of 30-35% on Day 2 for it to have any chance of going on to be a fairly decent grosser.
Doesn’t seem to be a big grosser now..the opening had to be good and this sort of figure cannot be considered even decent…its fate has been sealed in the first day itself now..let’s see what will its final collections be

Ajay Devgan desperately needs Rohit Shetty to direct each of his films. Ajay without Shetty is Emraan Hashmi without Bhatts. Zero.

Ajay devgn is such a talented actor, he deserves better than AJ. My sincere request to him is to avoid crass films and start doing movies (including Zakhm, Legend of bhagat singh etc…) which made him Ajay devgn.

Next 3 Movies are PK, Tevar & Baby. PK can be savior 4 Bollywood. But Tevar & Baby Trailer aren’t looking so promising. Tough times ahead!

so the 50 days period btwn nov7 to dec18 is d worst period of Bollywood in last 4yrs.infact Bollywood business hd taken a huge jump from 2011 summer vacation onwards.from ready 2011 to hny last month around 62 films became bo success(semi hit to blockbuster) in a period of 40months
out of this 62 success films 11 were blockbusters,17 superhits and 33 were hits/semi hits.
so after such a prolonged great period a lean phase was bound to happen and thats exactly wat has happened nw.
but I m sure pk will get a gd opening 24cr+ and if content is even 80% of 3 idiots then sky isd limit.and then there will b highly anticipated releases like baby,badlapur,tevar,byomkesh.
Bollywood will soon bounce back from this lean phase.just a wait of 2 more weeks.

Rohit Shetty is the reason why films like Singham returns, Chennai express opened huge. Without Rohit CE wont have crossed even 150 crores. His style of comedy works well.

Kingshuk.. clashing with SRK film means free publicity. SOS got good opening not because of Ajay but publicity because of controversy with JTHJ… at that time masala genre was popular and also Diwali…
Ajay needs to get back to doing good movies… he can never be a big star like SRK, Salman, Hrithik, Aamir or Akshay. Harsh reality.

Though I don’t like atrocious Prabhu Deva movies, I have to say that when a movie flops as bad as Happy Ending, industry loses so much of money.
The profit they made with HNY, Bang Bang. Kick, Singham Returns gets lost after a string of flops.
Hope Baby and Tevar take a good start next year. The industry needs money to give good films!
those who r jumping to d conclusion based on d fact that tevar will flop based on d fact that all desi style masala films hv flopped in last 2yrs I will request them to watch the tevar trailer yet again.
despite having a ghisa pita story the trailer is so entertaining and that’s mainly bcz of amit sharma’s direction.amit sharma is d man behind viral google ads and lot of popular ads.he definitely knows d art of direction and tevar will definitely b an entertaining film
yes,music if tevar hasn’t worked but the trailer hs been uninamously liked by everyone.also arjun hs made smart choices in his career of mixing massy films with classy films.so his fans r there in every section of d audience.some like him fr his gunday abd ishaqzaade while others love him fr his 2 states and fanny.so tevar will definitely open well and if content appreciated then it will b a superhit

I heard Queen and Yaariyan made huge profit on less investment.
When ajay devgan’s SR broke record of kick opening day some idiots here started to say ajay is bigger star then salman, so just look at what is ajay without rohit.. SR got great opening because of holiday after that SR also crashed and now action Jackson find it hard to cross kick opening weekend collection in a life time
i dont think that singham returns would have collected more than 15-17 crores had it released on a non-holiday !
and as usual youtube views means nothing.aj hd twice more hits on youtube than sr trailer but aj opening 3 times lesser than sr!!!
similarly hny trailer songs hd lesser hits than bb on YouTube but opening bb opening was 40% lesser than hny!!! dont y ppl in care to see hw much views,likes a films promo is getting in youtube as they hardly reflect on d buzz among the public.

It’s revolution time, it’s about time Bollywood start making meaningful movies instead of over doing masala movies. Its trailer and music were disappointing, it barely had any hype unlike Singham Returns.
Anyways, I hope it recovers its cost, but reports suggest it may not show any major growth in upcoming days.
One more coincidence is the fact that Saif had given a dud named Kurbaan back then and now he has Happy Ending!
P.S. Akki’s De Dana Dan also received a lukewarm response in November. (Though some sources cite that it was a success)
If ajay does gud movies he gets appreciatd but the boxoffice numbrs r missing and some vl say that ajay wnt sell he is a flop star he cnt survive so he switchd on to masala films to get success as success is what counts what shud he do highly confusing

That was a nice point you made. Youtube views represent nothing but fan-following. Hrithik is the most popular star for city-centric audience. Each movie of his gets nearly 10 million hits because his 1 million fans watch his video at least 5 times. Rest are neutral movie lovers who after seeing the trailer decide whether or not to watch the movie.
Youtube views arent essential for collections. What should work is the response. Check out the trailers of YJHD or Vicky Donor. You’ll see tons of people praising the movie. Which shows that the response was phenomenal.
But when big stars are involved, youtube views and comments are more inclined towards fan-wars. Ranbir was untouched till YJHD. But after the big time success of that film, he too has been attacked by certain groups which was visible with Besharam trailer.
