Aamir Khan’s PK goes tax free in Uttar Pradesh

PKThe box office collections of Aamir Khan’s PK is expected to soar higher, as the Uttar Pradesh government, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, has declared the film tax free in the state.

In a statement released to the media, a senior official of the government said “Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has watched the movie and has directed that such films should be exempted from entertainment tax”

Entertainment tax in UP is the 4th highest in the country after Maharashtra (except Marathi films), Bihar and Karnataka (except Kannada films). Tax slab in the state is as follows:

  • 30% tax for tickets priced upto Rs 10.
  • 35% tax for tickets priced between Rs 10 – 30.
  • 40% tax for tickets priced higher than Rs 30.

  • It seems pretty hypocritical of them to bump the ticket price and then complain that it’s too expensive for people to see and get the tax taken off it.

At least the taxes would (in theory) go back into public services rather than lining the pockets of the filmmakers.

  • CM of Maharahstra has said that there will be no inquiry. Shows of PK will continue all over Maharashtra and we will provide necessary protection to ensure smooth screening of the film.Hope he declares PK tax free in Maharashtra.

  • wow good news.. now every state government should declare PK tax free, as this type of movie is ought to be watched by many people.

  • Good news.It would benefit the film in a big way.But there have been rumors that the protest against the movie will affect the collections to some extent. If that will be the case it would be sad to see such a good movie suffering because of some idiots who claim they represent the entire country.

  • Not surprising. Akhilesh Yadav is sickular politician and appeases only the muslims for votes. So he has no problem in giving tax free status to hinduism insulting PK. He is just saying that he is anti-hindu.

  • I watched this interview where he said he downloaded the movie but didn’t have time to watch the movie, then he watched it on the recommondation of others at 10pm,what the hell is this being a minister he is doing piracy by downloading movie instead of going to theatres isn’t illegal,he should be the one to tell people for not doing any illegal but he himself doing it,what a choice of people to select all the corrupt and criminal people of India as minister

  • My Sid-view of PK:
It’s a story told from an alien’s perspective..The alien named PK(Aamir Khan) tries to find God as his tracking device is stolen..He comes across Jaggu(Anushka) the journo..who has a heart break at Belgium..in their pursuit, they challenge the conventions of godmen and the beliefs of the people..will they be successful in their challenge is what the story about..
The concept which was hard hitting in Paresh Rawal’s OMG is subtle due to the typical Raju Hirani style of humor blended with the message.. This movie is not the best of Raju Hirani as his movies are driven by the entire cast..there are no supporting roles like a Circuit or Raju Rastogi in the movie..even the second half is to be blamed..The first half is excellent..the Lord Shiva scene being my favorite as a message is delivered along with the LOL moment..But the second half is slacky due to some scenes which were unnecessary and poor editing.. But the climax more than makes up for it..Music is okay with Chaar Kadam and Bhagwan being the best..
Aamir Khan gives a splendid performance as PK..Anushka Sharma is great as Jaggu..Saurabh Shukla was good..wish there was more of Boman Irani and Sushant Rajput..Sanjay Dutt was good in his short role..Ranbir Kapoor cameo was great as well..
Overall not the best among Raju Hirani movies when compared to Munnabhai or 3 Idiots..still his good movies are also worth a watch..go watch one of the good movies of 2014 for the message it delivers..
