Enough has been said about the phenomenal earth-shattering box office opening of Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. But the film, as of today, has crossed 100 crores nett (i.e excluding entertainment taxes) at the Indian box office in just 9 days!
The average per day nett works out to 11 crores – a figure that most films find difficult to match during its initial weekend – 3 Idiots has consistently managed to nett even during the much dreaded weekdays.
So what could be the final lifetime nett is a question we have been asked several times. Its hard to predict at the moment. 150 – 160 crores is well within reach and with the kind of universal acclaim the film has received, with many non-moviegoers curious to see what the film is all about, we wouldn’t be too surprised if it touches 165 – 170 crores!

its unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!there is no way stopping for this film……165-170 looks small to me……if i m not wrong this is the 1st film that earned same amount of money in its 1st and 2nd Friday…….wow….it’s great to see history is in making……..this record will be intact for at least 50 years i think…..i hope salman also chooses this type of films….coz if he does so then it will break 3i records 4 sure….
Amir has beaten his own record which he set with last year’s release “Ghajini”…..Ghajini did life time business of 115 to 120 Crores Nett… But 3-Idiots is doing Mind Blasting Business and if it really manages to cross 150 Crores as Indicine is predicting then I personally don’t think that any other movie in the next 10 years or so can come even closer to this movie business wise….

like this movie will have a second weekend bigger than first weekend of Ghajini.Even if 1st weekend
record of 3i gets broken,it will be an uphill task for Veer and MNIK to break the 2nd weekend record.
And the hype would carry on becoz of the following reasons
1.The repeat value and word of mouth are exemplary.
2.The Chetan Bhagat controversy ,though rather disappointing ,will give negative publicity to both
3 idiots and FPS.
3.3 idiots team is carrying on promotion with full vigour by visiting various centres as part of success
celebration.
Amish, all of Akshay’s films, if accepted, were potential 60 – 70 crore blockbusters. Wide release or not, good films hold steady even during weekdays. KI, Blue, DDD and CCTC were all rejected.
Kanishka, the opening of My Name Is Khan will give a clearer picture. The stakes are higher now, anything below 55 crores in India would be considered disappointing.
ow…Amir khan finished the year 09 in style..if its amir khans movie then nothing is impossible…nd the record already set by 3i can be broken….bt only by amir khan….:)
I think not only human being are watching this film, may be Aamir Khan promoted this film from diffrent planet. This is unblievable, 100cr 4 only 9 days? n even d second week beat Ghajini’s first week, wonderfull. Aamir Khan is definitely no.1 for d coming 5yrs, no doubt.

kites is lookin dangerous de shoudnt release in may 14 a week later housefulls releasin and dats going to affect kites business, so kites has only got one week ta make its money at the box office

Afzal, its hard to make box office predictions. They are never too accurate. Not even the best of trade pundits would have accurately predicted the opening of 3i.
Anyway, the film hugely benefited from the hike (almost double in many cities) in ticket prices.
i think that it will be impossible for MNIK or veer to come anywhere close to these figures . Infact maybe Aamir would be the only one who will break his record and no one else

When Ghajini did 115 cr then i thought now who can break it, it cant be break but after 1 yr Aamir repeated his own history and now 3 Idiots gonna settled 150 – 160 cr , it looks impossible but dont worry may be after 5 , 10 yrs it will break becuase tickets price would be increase, pupolation would be increase and may be any best movie can do it.
it is very imposisble for Veer and MNIK to break it , because Veer is historical movie so it can be hit but not like 3 Idiots and same case with MNIK that dry script can put it down , so both movies can work on boxoffice even they can reach till 70 – 80 cr but 160 cr it seems impossible.
