Fitoor Box Office Collections

We reported in the morning yesterday that the opening of Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor was disastrous. But there was hope that the film would pick up towards the end of the day, like most such films do. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. ‘Fitoor’ has collected Rs 3.61 crore on Day 1, which is lower than both the Hollywood film ‘Deadpool’ and the other Hindi release ‘Sanam Re’.

Fitoor, Sanam Re, Deadpool Box Office Opening

Both Hindi movies have opened poorly at the box office on Friday. Fitoor is disastrous considering the budget of the film. Sanam Re has taken a better start at places, but the film should have opened better – after all, the film had hit music and sustained promotional campaign by T-Series. The average start for Fitoor is around 10-15%, while Sanam Re is slightly ahead with opening in the range of 15-20%. The Hollywood release of the week has taken a much better start as compared to both Hindi releases. In major cities, the morning show occupancy of Deadpool was around 40-45%.

Hrithik Roshan films: Gap between two movie releases

Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro and Kaabil are releasing 168 days or 6 months apart, making it the least gap between two Hrithik films after the blockbuster success of Krrish and Dhoom 2 in 2006. The biggest gap between two of the superstar’s films was when Kites released 827 days (28 months / nearly 2 and a half years) after Jodha Akbar. The next big gap came with 2012’s Agneepath and 2013’s Krrish 3.

Airlift beats Agneepath to become the highest ever grosser of January

Akshay Kumar’s Airlift has surpassed the 4-year-old record of Hrithik Roshan’s Agneepath to become the highest grossing January film of all time in Bollywood. January isn’t the best month to release films and most releases in the first month of the year, have failed to recover costs. Airlift is probably the first big success of January after Agneepath. The Akshay Kumar film is now looking at lifetime business of 125 – 130 crore. It Top 3 Grossers of January Airlift (122.65 crore) – Super Hit Agneepath (122 crore) – Super Hit Jai Ho (112 crore) – Above Average Day-wise box office collections of Airlift

Bollywood Box Office Collections 2016 with Verdict

Box office collections of all major Bollywood movies released in 2016 along with verdict and summary. This page will be updated everyday. Do bookmark it! Wazir: The first big release of 2016 didn’t open well at the box office, but remained steady for 2 weeks. The film found appreciation in 5-10 cities, which eventually helped it become an average grosser. Average. Airlift: Akshay Kumar’s first release of 2016 wasn’t ‘hot’ in the trade prior to release and domestic theatrical rights did not fetch a big price either, but Airlift was one of those films that got its economics right, which helped the film become the first ‘Super Hit’ of the year. Pre-release expectations as 70-75 crore range, but Airlift should finish with lifetime business of 125 crore and become the highest January grosser of all time. It’s also Akshay’s second highest career grosser. The contribution of Airlift for the month of January was more than 50%. Super Hit. Kya Kool Hain Hum 3: A section of the trade expected Kya Kool Hain Hum to outgross Airlift, but the end result was outright rejection from the audience. KKHH3 was the biggest disappointment of January. Flop. Mastizaade: The Sunny Leone starrer opened to a reasonably good response and sustained fairly well too. The official figures suggest the film has just about recovered costs. Average. Saala Khadoos: Rajkumar Hirani’s name was expected to help generate interest around Saala Khadoos, but the audience did not turn up at theatres to watch the R. Madhavan starrer. It didn’t get the kind of critical acclaim that such films need to grow on word-of-mouth, which sealed its fate by the end of its first weekend. Flop. Fitoor: Opened to disastrous response and tanked without a trace. Katrina Kaif’s career hit an all-time low with Fitoor. Neerja: Opened slow, but gained momentum over the weekend. Was fantastic in Week 1 and eventually went on to become the 2nd highest grosser of 2016 after Airlift. Yet another film that was based on a true event. Jai Gangaajal: Priyanka Chopra didn’t promote the film as much as she should have. The film didn’t open well, the word-of-mouth wasn’t good either. Flop. Kapoor & Sons: The Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Fawad Khan starrer open fairly well at the box office and showed good growth over the weekend – even though the Saturday collections of the film was affected by the India vs Pakistan World Cup match. During the weekdays, the film came into its own, recording fantastic collections for nearly 2 weeks. The Jungle Book: The biggest surprise of the year came in the form of ‘The Jungle Book’. In the next few days, the film will go on to be biggest grosser of 2016 ahead of Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. It has also severely affected the business of Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN. FAN: The biggest release of the year featured Shah Rukh Khan in the lead. It was expected to open well, it did. It was expected to grow further on word-of-mouth, but that didn’t happen as the business of the film began to falter on Day 2 itself. The crash on Monday has sealed its fate. First Shah Rukh Khan flop after 2005’s Paheli, that in itself is the most shocking trade news of 2016.

Sunny Deol returns with his second directorial venture, nearly 17 years after his last film Dillagi (1999). As an actor, he was last seen in the 2015 dud I Love New York. His latest film faces an uphill task of recovering costs at the box office, as the film has been made on a budget of 32-35 crore and an additional 12 crore has been spent on print and marketing.

Jai Ho vs Airlift: Box Office Collection Comparison

Airlift is all set to beat the all-time 2nd highest grosser of January, Jai Ho, which released during the same period in 2014. The highest January grosser of all time is Agneepath. Jai Ho: Huge release, mass-appeal, first Salman Khan film in 13 months, mixed to negative word-of-mouth at big centres, no advantage of Republic Day which happened to fall on Sunday. Higher costs, loss-making for distributors, Semi Hit / Above Average.
